There is tons of equipment getting stolen anywhere and everywhere, we had trailer stolen about a month ago and there was only a 3 hour window between when the trailer arrived to our dock and the other driver getting back to the dock to grab another trailer.
We are right by the airport, close to PTR too. Penske on Atlantic actually had equipment stolen from there yard on Atlantic during daylight hours...
It's getting to be crazy now, we got better pin locks, glad hands and paddlocks for all of our trailers. The more harder they are too take the less chance of them getting taken. Our trucks have hard wired GPS systems in them that you can't even tell that they are in there so that helps alot, had 2 highway units stolen over a year ago and were able to tell the police exactly where they were, where they went etc. We have a new GPS's going in by the end of the month that we can actually get e-mails when truck ignition goes on/off, also when it enters or exits our yard/warehouse. It's pretty amazing what these things can do, we currently have 4 units with them and I remember a few weekends go one of the drivers had the breaks repaired on the truck and it moved from the yard down the street and we were on it right away that the truck was moving when nothing was scheduled.
We all need to keep an eye out on things for everyone, we had a straight truck parked on our street for a whole day, so we went over and got the number off of the truck and called them and yep stolen, so we then called the police to report that it was parked there all day since we arrived into work.
