Loaded with small appliances

stolen from Husky, Dixie and Shawson in Mississauga between the 12 and 14 of Feb.

Any info let me know!
Thanks:)

Seriously???

Geez, that block must have the highest concentration of cargo thefts in the world. Why would anyone even go there, let alone get out of the truck?

Go to either Milton, Brampton or Montreal and look around the truck and trailer - they will be found basically unhurt. Look on ebay and kijiji or local flea markets for the load. It sucks but you will get your equipment back!

Leaving a loaded trailer unattended for two days at the Husky in Mississauga is either stupid or criminal. Almost a stupid as the company that left two loads of video games unattended in Mississauga just before Christmas. Our yard is like a fortress, and we still have 24 hr security guard here to watch the place, camera's dont scare off professionals.

Another scary thing is that if the Husky was not shown on the carriers insurance policy as a "Drop Yard" location the claim may not be honored.

Please elaborate on this. Say an O/O brings a loaded trailer to him home/or where ever he parks while at home does that have to be considered a drop yard? Which insurance company has this stipulation?

Usually as long as the trailer is attached to the truck it is covered. If it was just dropped then you could be S.O.L.

Did you check that it wasn't towed? Husky was getting alot of "transient" truck parking so they started cracking down and towing the ones they hadn't been paid from. A driver I know had been taking advantage of this for a few months, until one day he went to get his truck and it had been towed.

Otherwise, ya it's pretty silly to leave a loaded trailer unattended in that location.

I would imagine since both the tractor and trailer were stolen, that it wasn't a drop trailer situation. In that case, if the tractor was still hooked to the trailer, insurance "should" be in force.

Sorry guys, you are correct I thought it was just a trailer dropped.

Ralph.. as far as the insurance goes many insurance companies will not cover trailers (cargo ) that are dropped unattended at locations that are not listed on the policy. Many will ask for a list of your drop yards used and limit (cargo) coverage to those locations. Some policies especially for carriers running U.S is that coverage stops when the trailer is dropped regardless of where.
You should check with your agent and tell them exactly what you are doing and see if you have coverage. Dont be surprised if you dont.

Poor guy just lost his truck and trailer and $$$ in cargo. U guys are going to kill him with all these other issues. Most insurnace companies wil honour the policy. Its isnt the best idea to leave trucks in unsecure locations. We pay security and have fences and cameras. The bottom line is if you got what they want. Its gone

so true!

They drive over fences, gates and lawns to steal it. Tracking devices are your best bet.:)

Safety measures

A collegue had a trailer stolen from his owner Op's fenced in yard just before Christmas.
Security camera's and fenced in yards were not an issue. Police have tire tracks and film showing the trailer going a little down the road to another yard.
Of course there were no more Ski Doo's to be found.

Enough of a mess to have lost the Owner OP, since he had his own insurance.

Apparently, the owner of the yard where the tire tracks lead is known to the police!!
Will that do any good?
Everyone lost except the guy with the ski doo's.

Dont be so sure that you are covered. We had a load stolen a couple of years ago and had the claim denied (AXA Insurance) because the trailer was not hooked and was unattended in a yard that the insurance company did not know about. It was there for 3 hours.
Expensive lesson. We are still fighting them over it.

Insurance

I feel for the people that suffer a loss because of theft. However, regarding insurance coverage: All that an insurance policy guarantees is an opportunity to litigate when they deny coverage, despite what their marketing people tell you.

We had a load of copper wire stolen from a "secure" "drop yard" outside of Montreal in 2006/2007, never to be seen again (we were the load broker), was one very sticky situation. The SQ (the Quebec Provincial Police) were not entirely helpful and it's clear that cargo thefts for such a large volume of freight appears to be easy. The trailer was later found completely unloaded east of Montreal, with no clue as to who took the reels of wire or what facility would take them immediately for fast cash. That's what blows me away. These thieves seem to know what they're looking for and appear to be prepared to dispose of the goods and truck quickly, unloading and all.

Copper

Raw or lightly non ferrous metal theft is rampant.

Most of these thefts are inside jobs and the thieves are on your trailer from the get go. They will follow your trailer as they already know where you are going to deliver. If they do not see the trailer stopped , dropped or left alone , the theives will probably attack your driver and simply leave with tractor and trailer.

The copper , aluminium etc. is already sold to a recycler before it is stolen for 50% value.
With no real means of identifying the product , it becomes impossible to track and probably ends up back at the original smelter as recycled material.

Copper at $3.00/lbs , means $60,000.00 to the theives.

Careful in NB

I hear there is a rash of tractor and trailer thefts going on in New Brunswick. Soooo use caution when parking especially if ur trailer is loaded.

We have an ignition set called Magtec which makes it almost impossible to steal, would take the theives about 4 hours to figure out how to start the truck. It is a very simple but effective that cost us about $700 about 12 years ago and they have been switched between trucks about 4 times each and continue to work so a very cheap investment. I think they are now a $1000 a set and a couple of hundred dollars to install.
