Yes, that's what I mean.. cold calling by phone. Email is tricky due to the Can spam regs.. not allowed to email people without first getting their permission. Thus have never reached out to prospect via email. For me its 100% phone calls.. but really haven't done any these last couple of weeks.
This is a tough one. It's very insensitive at this time to do the old "hey you got freight? I can ship it as I am trying to meet targets. " To; Hi, in light of the current situation, we are reaching out to companies with whom we are all sharing the same stresses, to see if there are any areas we may be able to assist each other with." Regardless, I am getting sales calls made to me and I feel that it is not the time. However if someone called saying I may have some solutions to the current issues you may be experiencing, I may listen.
Our Account Managers are assisting the Customer Service group by contacting existing customers to discuss if they are limiting operating hours, what procedures they have in place, etc so that we can update our system and offer the carriers real-time information on what drivers can expect at shipping/receiving locations. I don't know how welcome cold calling can be right now, perhaps following up with people 'in the funnel' that at least know your name/face.
Hats off to the shipper that has locked the shipping/receiving door but has placed a porta potty at least in the parking lot for drivers. Everyone needs to pee after their morning coffee.
Its a very different time right now. We will all look back in 30 years (lord willing) and laugh with our grandkids about this experience. I still think it will get a little worse before it gets better.
Ferrari,
You're right, the majority of us will get through this. My 3 year old will not remember it but I'll never forget it.
Sadly, we're losing a whole bunch of elders (mostly) right now.
