Freight broker

Call me anytime.

You are one of the rare birds in this industry. I still know of a few such brokers in the Montreal Area, they never use a load board and still write out the load confirmations in longhand.
They even pay you COD if need be, may I add, at no cost.

Unfortunatly, this whole industry seems to have been skewed in the last two years. Many and may I venture, most load brokers finance their operations on the carriers backs.

I often use FED Ex as much as the next carrier, I beleive our terms are prepaid or COD at best. I had the pleasure of doing a partial load for them recently. After several phone calls we received payment around the 90 day mark. I mentionned the disparity to their accts. payable, it went on deaf ears, tehy could not care less!!!!

I must admit, We work on 45 to 60 day terms on the few loads We must sell. I would like to pay faster but cannot anymore. It seems that our whole receivables collum has shifted from 30 days to 60 days.

Our payables from 30 days to 7 days.
The banks are not friendly because of the state of the industry!!!

What more can I say, it is a pleasure when we come accroos a broker such as yourself!!!

Does Anyone Know who owns Starship???Are they still operating please?

Hi there,

I hope we're operational, I'd have to ask what all these staff were doing here if not!

You may call me any time you like, I'll put you in touch with the owner (he's right down the hall).

starship logistics inc

left two messages for a/p to call back -no call back at this point.
going on 30 days now

They have been paying us between 80 and 115 days. Just sent a collection letter as all other efforts have failed for a 90 day old invoice. Made DNU list

I've researched this, your invoice is currently under 90 days (received 13 days after delivery).

A/P is waiting for your call or email and has your chq info.

Keep well,

Mike

Under 90 days what is it at 89. A/P is WAITING for their call if you haven't issued payment within an appectable time I would have A/P call them and ask. Again that's why you are on the DNU list.

I don't know Mike or anybody else personally on this board, but I go thru a lot of posts here and Mike's posts are almost always helpful.

I sense a lot of hostility towards him, and it's kinda misdirected as he's not AP or an Owner I think.
How about sending him a PM or give him a call when something goes past what you all think is an appropriate time to pay?? It would be like having someone on the ''inside'' type a deal, no?? He seems helpful enough from here......

I might be sticking my throat out to be slit, here, but I just want to say that we do work occaisionally for Starship. I have never had to call them for payment. We have each and every time received payment around the 60 day mark. That may be far too long for some companies out there, granted. And I agree that if payment in 30 days is promised, then it should be honoured. But I have to agree with group Levasse, that Mike is very insightful in this forum. I sort of feel like he gets the short end of the stick.

Although I do believe Mike contributes a great deal to this board and is a valuable member, this thread is about payment terms and nothing else. Members have the right to know if a brokerage company is not paying their bills in what they consider to be a timely manner. I believe that is what this site is for.

I agree he knows the business and yes his posts are very helpful, I'm not disputing that. I feel that a carrier should be paid with a reasonable time frame for the service's they provide.

You're absolutely right Michael K. It doesn't matter if a deliquent payer is a contributing member of this site or not. MikeJr could be an employee with no authority to issue cheques or influence their payables schedule. I am sure however, that he has and will take any legitimate concerns to the powers that be at Starship for their attention. Hmmmmm, right MikeJr?

I attend to anything that comes to my desk (and I assure you the range of items keeps the days moving fast), customer service brings me service failures, miracle shipments performed by amazing carriers (I do call and follow up on those too), dispatch brings new carriers to research, accessorial charges to review, sales brings interesting new and wonderful projects... I could go on with the list but of course have a pile here to attend to...

Eassons was contacted today by AP here with the payment info they were looking for. I will be contacting them once I've been advised we can guarantee every carrier 30 days.

It's funny, if I look down one of the 2 threads I recall seeing posts from other members advising 'cut off years ago'... One of them I know for a fact we've not done business with in our 24 years - they are an ex employee though. Don't believe everything you read on here - some people have a hidden agenda! :) I assure you - I don't! My agenda is to protect all from those that would cheat and steal and to praise those that offer amazing service - it's what we all need!

Most importantly - we're paying faster today than 1 year ago and will only be paying faster in the future. It sounds to me like there are others (brokers and shippers alike) slowing down payments (there's a few threads about this) and I know for a fact that our 'avg days' is declining.

Have a great afternoon (even those that I'm on the DNU).

Keep well,

Mike
