Hi Guys, wanted to get your input on per mile pay for short distance company drivers and owner operators? What would be the best structure or the market structure that people are using?

Yep. Curious how drivers get paid these days for short trips less than 500 miles.

Paul,

Have a look at these:

I just used the overtheroad.ca site to connect to a few. Challenger's
pay and remuneration page doesn't seem to be coming up. I periodically
stop at the Filthy Wheel or Flying J to get Truck News and Over The Road
and get those publications. A lot of ads nowadays don't give away too much about what the pay package is except for sketchy details. These
two pdf's are good.

Pay

That is somewhat elusive:

From Montreal , drivers going over 600 miles generally start with 36-38 cents per mile. With pick up pay and bonuses the driver should be in the 44 cent / mile range.
Those drivers that run the East Coast will get 42-44 Cents plus more per pick up- drop.
Now if the Carrier is near Quebec City and East of there, I know the drivers are paid as low as 28cents per mile on long Haul due to the lack of work in the area.

See if that helps!

If a driver does 500 miles per day, which I believe is within the HOS rules etc...and paid by the mile at $0.43 = $215.00 + drops and picks and perhaps a border crossing fee and waiting time if granted. Now if you pay by the hour for a trip as in 500 miles or less the pay could be paid up to 15 HOS rules X $18/hr = $270.00? Just another way to look at it.....

Paul,

We have looked at this also and the difference of paying our guys mileage or hourly seemed to fall within 20 bucks sometimes we won sometimes the driver did. It was about 50-50 just depending on how long to load or unload.

ralphthetrucker.......nope not joking, city starts at $18.00 and goes to $ 24.00 all depends on equipment etc...., none of our highway drivers are paid hourly.........plus all the other benefits....
