Schroeder Freight - Bankruptcy

Try extension 553 or if you go through the automated phone attendant, go to finance and hit #4 for the supervisor (she's very helpful).

The next time you speak to him, maybe mention this thread. I was just saying he's not logged into IT since July, nothing more.

Keep well,
Mike

I don't want to start any rumours, but I will add my two cents.
Ernie (I believe the owner) has always provided us with top service and communication.
His son Tim branched out a while ago and opened Flying Eagle Transport. We dealt with them about half a dozen times. Communication was always a bit 'off'. I'd email their dispatch group for a status, and one would reply 'already picked up', then another dispatcher would write 'will be there later today or tomorrow'...
I once recall asking for a delivery status, and I was told would be a day late...no problem, but then our consignee calls me to tell me he received it hours earlier. When I asked them to explain, I got a 'oops, was tracking the wrong truck'. The last time I asked them to handle a load, Tim told me to 'send it over, I can partner that out'. I asked him what he meant by 'partner it out' as I didn't need him to re-broker the load for me, but he never replied.
and after all this, we didn't receive any invoices for a very long time, then were asked to pay Schroeder instead of Flying Eagle.
Anyhow, they seemed like a nice bunch, but something just wasn't right, so we stopped calling on them.

We would like to add that there is odd going on with Schroeder. Since spring of 2016 payments are being delayed, but we were getting paid up until beginning of November 2016. After that, we never even managed to get a promise of the next payment. We were in contact with their direct clients who expressed the concern of numerous phone calls from different carriers of not being paid for freight charges by Schroeder. Due to that, one of their direct client seized their payments to Schroeder. That is a very bad sign.

Ouch! that does not sound good at all. In years gone by, we had fairly good success using them. Haven't matched up for a while though.

Schroder for me has always been inconsistent, though as a carrier I don't remember any recent experience when they were on my freight.

I did visit the Toronto operation about a year ago, shortly after Brian opened it. It wasn't a huge office and he didn't have much staff there at the time, so I doubt that the Toronto operation would be dragging the company down. I'm guessing that the asset-based operations are struggling. But this doesn't sound good at all.

Kids today want the life their parents have but don't realize how hard they had to work for that life, all they see is the benefits the parents are now realizing after 20+++ years of putting everything on the line and missing a lot of events because of work. Mom and Pop have a good thing going and all of a sudden you have 3 kids wanting company vehicles and a salary that is above what they are qualified, a home of their own etc etc so the business needs to expand and the trouble begins.

Well said... and quite true !!!

We have all seen examples of this ( if indeed it is the case here) in our industry and others. As parents, we are faced with the dilemma of wanting to provide our kids with opportunities that were not available to us, and at the same time, ensuring that they are properly equipped and experienced for the challenges awaiting them. Without it, we are doing them a serious disservice.

might they be suffering from 3rd generation virus?
This is actually a real thing. Studies have shown that the 2nd generation generally takes the business to a higher level. They stick closer to the 1st generation's values and work ethics. They saw first hand the work hard work and sacrifices that their parents made. The 3rd generation grew up enjoying the fruits of their parents and grandparents labour but was raised without ever actually experiencing any of the suffering required. They graduate from University and want jump right into the corner office thinking that running the family biz is their god given right whether they know what they are doing or not. They need to spend at least 10 years working up from the bottom to fully understand what their business is all about.
