Aberstar has received an over whelming request from people offering their condolences and wanting to make a donation to benefit the family of Gary Clarke. I thank you all and greatly appreciate the outreach.
I am truly humbled to see everyone as a community pull together in support. As people, both drivers and transportation staff alike can attest, ours is an industry that is very demanding with long, seemingly thankless hours. It’s precious moments that we seem to get for quality time for those things that matter most….family. For Gary had an opportunity to visit family while off duty in the Chicago area. A small rare moment which turned into tragedy. Gary’s was such a senseless death and it is deeply troubling to me personally and, as evident by the heart felt responses received, the community as a whole.
For those of you who knew Gary, he was a good man with the kindest of hearts. He will be missed by so many of the lives he touched.
For those of you who didn’t know Gary, give a thought today for all the drivers currently on the road that are away from their families for a day, a week, a month…. and in Gary’s case….forever. They deserve a lot more respect then they are given. My thoughts are with them all in that they shall make a safe journey home.
