It starts at the beginning of your shift start after the 34 hour reset. BTW... it only applies to the U.S. If you only run Canada you use a 36 hour reset.

For more info go to http://www.ooida.com/IssuesActions/Regulatory/Issues/docs/HOS/HOS-Regulations-7-1-2013.pdf

The guy needs to take another course. Next time the same guy stops you, ask to see his supervisor. Once you've completed a reset, you start at "0". His way of thinking, you've accumalated 34 hours before you start which would never account for ever taking a reset.

Where are you getting stopped at? All the info on the new changes are posted on the FMCSA, CVSA, and OOIDA websites.

I think people are getting stuck on wording. Examples are easiest.
If you do a reset from Friday 4 PM to Sunday, then roll....your next reset cannot start until the following Friday at 4 PM. Even if he is done on Thursday night, the reset cannot start until Friday at 4PM.
At least that's my understanding

Yep, that's the way it's stated in the ruling below. Worst part is halfof the LEO's can't under stand it either.

So what you're saying is that if a driver starts on Sunday this week, he's going to stuck to starting on Sunday every time? Sounds dumb to me. That won't leave much flexibility for the drivers or dispatchers. I could have a driver sitting home since thursday, but won't be able to use him on Saturday, because he can't start his reset until Sunday?

Never though about it like that, it's really going to screw up the long hauls. The only way around it is the fact that a reset is not mandatory, drivers are going to have to go back to doing a recap every week.

I don't see how a driver could run out of hours on Thursday if he started on Sunday. That would be 5 days logging at 10 hrs/day would still leave him 20 hours in an eight day cycle. If he had a zero on Thursday, that would extend his 70 hrs an extra day so he could drive on Friday and Saturday to reach 70. He starts his reset on Sunday again. If I'm not mistaken, you still get back hours from 7 days previous. Only when you take a reset do you not get back hours from the 5 days prior to the reset.

Unless I'm reading the rules wrong.

I didn't say the driver was going to run out of hours on thursday. Driver could need to take thursday and friday off for personal reasons, but the new law would prevent the driver from using those days for reset, since he wouldn't have reached the 168th hour mark yet.

My mistake Ranger. It screws the driver eventually on a long haul trip but with 2 days off he still would get hours back so it extends his time period before a reset. It really does suck, IMO.

You all forget, it wasn't to long ago we didn't have a reset to work with. We all did just fine on the 70hr/8 day cycle.
