Ratchet straps for dry vans

Lately I've been hearing about shippers specifically requiring "ratchet straps" for certain dry van loads.
Can someone please clarify what they are? Aren't they the same thing as the regular logistics straps that clip into the logistics bars of the trailer and then there is a ratchet mechanism that tightens the strap?

You are correct. However, there are straps that you just pull tight.
You cannot get them as tight as ratchet straps and they do have a tendency of loosening up enroute.
