OK, so we booked a load with G. Roch after they twice inquired about one of our trucks. Driver got stuck at the border because the receiver's customs account # on file was wrong, notified them immediately (9pm at night!! no return call and we have a guy here 24 hours.) The dispatcher, Krystel, said she has to get approval from her "client" for $100 (just charging a layover) and let her know when it's delivered. Just before load delivers, I am calling and asking for the confirmation revision. "Oh, we need to get approval. Don't worry. Everyone knows about the situation so that's not a problem. We'll send it as soon as we get approval." And I'm like, this isn't negotiable. Just send it. I'm thinking, hmmm so I checked here and saw talk about double-brokering. Finally, 5pm comes along. Still no answer. Call this morning. Same thing. I said to her "Is this your account?" She says yeah. I said, "So I don't see the problem. If it's your customer and everyone knows, then you should be able to bill it and pay it out. What's the delay?? This isn't negotiable. We're billing you for it and we need the revision." Again with the "I need approval."

Has anyone else had this thing happen with Roch and if so, what was the outcome? My sense is now telling me it's double-brokered although I do not see any reference to another carrier on the paperwork I have. In truth, I don't trust them at this point, despite their credit references coming back as shiny and good. Any thoughts?

Anything G Roch does is double brokered, or as they like to call it, co-brokered. Their marketing strategy is towards US based brokers and 3PLs to be their Canadian partner.

Whether they are dealing with the 'beneficial owner' of the freight or not, if there is a paperwork screw-up, you're well within your right to bill for it.

When we deal with a carrier we deal with daily ... then maybe if there is a charge we can't recover we'll bury it in one or more future loads ... but otherwise, even if we take a loss we'll pay it out. But if the customer isn't fair with us and compensate when they screw up, they don't stay as a customer ... simple as that.

The trouble with the US brokers is that they have absolutely no understanding of these types of issues which don't exist on domestic freight and don't know how to sell it in some cases.

BTW -- Roca hasn't been on for a while. I suspect that Roca is Gilles Roch himself ...

I had Roca ask me in a PM who I worked for so I told him and now G Roch has me blocked in the Link that is a shame !!!! LMAO I used to quote then $250 higher than anyone else anyhow as I knew what they where up too..

He or she would PM me sometimes -- it wasn't bad, I told them I respected their opinion but disagreed and will always disagree with their practice.

I don't necessarily think they're going to pull a Rockman ... but the fact is, I don't believe they offer value ... just cost. But that's my 2 cents.

As a final note, Sean took care of the problem and got right back to me. It turned out that it really was their account and, naturally, when you deal with a company for the first time, there will be some jitters. Sean sent me a confirmation and even joked a bit. Seems like a decent chap.

This thread sounds a lot like the G Roch from the never ending thread, let the customer take advantage & screw the carrier. They probably bill it and keep it for themselves.

we handled this issue, and all other issues that have ever come up.

we do the best we can to take care of the carriers we utilize.

I always had a laugh at Krystel (Roch)'s act. Always acting as though she has no power or ability to do or say anything... Yes she is where the name Krystel in Krystel transport comes from. I have to say that I was surprised when Judy left, but she seems happier now when I talk to her on the phone..
