Hello Everyone

I just saw this post, and person posting is just a new member with 1 post. He just registered yesterday and his first post is a negative comment regarding a company.
In my opinion this member is either an old member and just registered another user to post such stuff (which shouldn't be allowed) or he is just mad at someone and using this forum to take his revenge.

I think new members shouldn't be allowed to post on certain forums (such as Report a Non Paying Freight Broker or good Payers or Bad Payers etc etc..)

Your thoughts?

I have good experience with vBulletin software and I can suggest some modifications in order to achieve this.

Could be a good idea, but I don't mind them saying their opinion about another company, such has their not paying their bill. But please explain the situation that pushed you to write these things... (i.e. over 60 days over due and no date of expected payment, won't answer phone or e-mail, etc...).

You know...put a little meat on your posting, so that other members can understand your situation... Not only talking about a new member on that matter...

But I do understand your point, that a new member with only 1 posting on this site writing bad stuff about another company. It should not be that's for sure...

It's an opinion, they can state it, it's up to you to use it or not.

Whether they are new or not, all members should be able to write up what they want.

I've seen a lot of things said about carriers I currently use, we have no issues with them, so it's mostly an opinion.

Wow, I can't believe this. A couple of days ago I get my hands slapped bigtime for mentioning the "C" word and Roadking comes out and actually proves exactly what I was talking about. Members will be asking this site and moderators to "burn books". He even has software that can censor for you...

I know I'm going to get crapped on again but I don't care. I was right and this proves it. If I get banned, so what...

From what I was lead to believe when I registered here, this was a place to seek advice, give a head's up of unscrupulous activity and network with members in the same fields.

Now, it looks like it's progressing to "an old boys club" where new input isn't appreciated and new members are not wanted.

Although a new member cannot "pm", they should still be allowed to express their views.

We can all see how many postings a member has and when they have registered.
New members are entitled to their opinions.
 
Thoughts on New Members (that's what the thread is for, not a debate about censorship), more specifically the thread linked in the first post on this thread:

The new member in question's first post was a bash towards another company, how did they circumvent the terms and conditions thread?

The new member is anonymous (holds less water in my books). Is the person an ex-employee with an axe to grind? I know there are postings about the company I work for that are from an ex employee and random rants that are completely untrue (I'll move on as is off topic).

The new member has yet to establish that they are/will be a long term contributing member that will offer information that will benefit all members.

Agreed, we all had a first post, and a second and a third... It takes time, detailed, and intelligent posts to build credibility.

How did it get to be August already?

I say we censor members who's posts add no value to this site. Roadking your out....Sorry couldn't resist.

Thanks MikeJr for noting this point. We all had to start off somewhere on this board. And it takes time to build up a reputation and credibility with other members.

Anyone is welcome to join - but follow forum rules. This new member's post was negative...no information to back it up. Therefore majority of us won't take it into consideration at all. Now if this same member continues to build up posts providing more information - we may start to listen a little more to what he/she has to say.

No different than building relationships outside of this board - meeting people for the first time and forming opinions. Just a little different here due to no "face to face" interaction. This is where the forum rules and adhering to them come into play. We need to watch what we write as it can be easily misconstrued. How many of us have got caught sending a seemingly "light" email - only to have it taken very badly by the receiver? Which certainly wasn't the original intention at all...And this is what has been happening here on the board the past couple weeks...

So the forum will gladly take on new members - regardless if their "out of the gate" posting start isn't a great one. We've seen many come and go - put a few posts here and there - use the board for the info they want and then leave - never to be heard of again. So be it. Many of us Senior members are still around - I certainly know who to listen to here and who not to. So...as a few of you noted here...read what posts you want - and move on from the ones of no interest or use to you.

It's as simple as that...and I hope it remains that way....

So, I’m sorry Mike but I can’t agree with you when you say “that's what the thread is for, not a debate about censorship”.

He absolutely talks censorship, wants to limit what members can say and when they can say it, and asks administrations to back his nonsense.

I understand Mike that you are a moderator in training but please tell me that you don’t subscribe to this censorship mentality that seems to have taken hold of this board.

When I first joined, it was refreshing to hear all comments from different people about a variety of subjects. And some very informative discussions came out of threads that never started as that subject header or title.

Now we will be told what to think and how to write it???

And if you are right Mike and this thread isn't the place to discuss censorship, please start another "right" thread and move all this there and I will be glad to continue this discussion with you and anyone else that thinks this line of thinking is acceptable in this day and age. Everyone has the right to free speech but not here???

It is very difficult to locate the fine line between Anarchy and Police State, but having these conversations may help us as an online community to find out where that line should be drawn...

Censorship should be used as a weapon of last resort...

IMHO, the world around us needs less rules, not more...

Good Golly boys and girls. Miss a week miss a lifetime! I didn't bother coming on for awhile, and now I see posts about censorship, arguing and bickering....I LOVE it! Beats the heck out of the lame (OK I'm sorry) truck news reprints that normally fill the screen.
I've been scrolling around, and I have to say...Manitoba Moose...ya kill me. Keep on keepin on brother!
As far as restricting new members...We can all see when they joined, we can see how many posts, and when they posted. We can make our own decisions. A two line post with no backup or followup doesn't hold a lot of water with me.
We were also new members once. Does that make our intellect or opinions less important?
I for one appreciate this site, the open-ness(?!) and relative freedom to say whats on your mind. A couple of the moderator's posts DID look like knuckle slaps, but hey, they don't have to be moderators, they are volunteering and we need them and appreciate them.
 
So everyone is saying that I can register 10 times with 10 different names and start spamming this forum, and no one will care about it.

I'm not talking about censorship, my only concern was about false information posted on the forum by new members.


Manitoba Moose: I even don't know what you are talking about. Who the hell is talking about censorship? All I was saying is that a person can bad mouth a company by registering on this forum 100 times in 2 days and posting numerous posts about a company. At least when new members are restricted we are just making it little bit difficult for them to spam this very good site.

Anyway it was just a suggestion and upto site owners to take it or not.

Out of curiosity Paul, why the 10 postings before pm privileges? To be honest, when I joined I was looking for information, saw a thread I thought would provide the right course to take and was frustrated because I would have preferred to contact a poster directly to keep from disclosing to much to the cyber world, but couldn't pm that person directly.

But that was a long time ago and I can still picture the frustration as a newbie.

Would you like to see porn links in your inbox (and of every member on this site) from a new user who is not even a human. There is software available which can send PM to every registered member of this.

So I think such restriction is to prevent SPAM.

I'm with you on this.

I think it leads to folks either giving up through frustration or running their post count up just so that they have the ability to use the pm function.
