An grab some oysters on the way home
No kidding! Have you seen the latest prices for oysters these days? There is a virus or something that has put a huge dent in the East Coast oyster stocks driving prices up. The days of a buck a shuck or even two bucks a shuck seem to be long gone. I was at a restaurant last week that had oysters on the menu for 50 bucks for 6! What a shame because I sure do loves me a big mess of oysters!

Weird. Still same prices as last year at my local seafood store.

Where was this? $50 is WAY to high. I just has Oysters in Ajax on Friday for $26 for six of them

I know. It was a high end restaurant. $26 ++for 6 seems to be the market rate at a sit down restaurant. Just read that some oyster farmers in PEI are seeing100% mortality due to this virus. Tough for them and tough for us oyster eaters!

I buy them at Metro (or East Coast Lobster) and shuck them at home. Been doing it for years. I like lemon and Tobasco in mine. Sometimes horseradish and every now and then I make a champagne vinegar and cucumber mignonette.

That being said, they taste a heck of a lot better when someone else does the work!! We went to Lot66 a few weeks back and ordered them, I won't look at prices for things anymore, it wasn't good for my blood pressure so I could have paid $26, could have paid $50. They were worth it no matter what they cost.

Now I want oysters....

Damn right! Just like good scotch or fine wine, when you really want it, you pay the piper regardless of the cost. Looking for bargains when you decide to eat out means you’ll likely go hungry.
