Has anyone ever had a driver receive a "following too close" violation when crossing the Mackinac Bridge in northern Michigan?
The exact violation wording is "Following too close. FOLLOW WITHIN 500 FT OF ANOTHER CMV ON MACKINAC BRIDGE."
I have never heard of this but apparently it exists.
500 FEET!!?? That is more that the length of a football field, if you do the math. (500 feet = 167 yards)
Yet another case where the officer couldn't find any other violation so he pulled this obscure nonsense law out of his you-know-where!

Posted all over the bridge 20mph (slower if the are escorting during high winds etc) and 500ft spacing. Driver error on this one as it has been like that since I started trucking across is a long time ago. It is so long and open and being a suspension bridge they are worried it will start bucking and break is what one of the toll ladies told me one night when I was sitting waiting for a bridge escort.

Good to know - thanks!
