Just received noticed of 60 day payment terms. You would think at close to 80 years in business they would have sufficient operating capital by now.

Actually, they have been paying closer to 90 days since the beginning of the year...but they do pay.
If they're saying 60, then it's great news to us!

They think they are being smart, we usually add 5% to the rate of slow payers to cover our costs because we are not a bank.

cdufrat - I don't understand why you would give 3 months to anyone to pay freight charges. Do you get that long with your fuel suppliers and / or drivers?

There's an earlier thread on these guys if you do a search and spell Mackinnon right.
They used to be a prompt payer, I assume their stretching terms to help pay their other bills like fuel & wages which they can't take these liberties with.
I wont use them on t/l's anymore but if I have the room anyways i'll risk booking their LTL.

I can't say for sure if this is related, but approx. 18 months ago, MacKinnon back solicited us with a long term customer. The strange thing was, they offered the customer a rate that was LOWER than what we had been paying them! Why they wanted to move the freight for even less money was always a mystery to me. Again, I do not know if this has:confused: any effect on their payment terms, but it does make one wonder. Needless to say, we do not offer any of our freight to MacKinnon even though they are a good carrier in terms of service usually.

We give some work to Mackinnon and we pay them in 30 days they also give us some work and they pay us in 30 days. I do know they paid you how you pay them you might want to check with your accounting department and make sure your paying on time and maybe you will get paid on time.

I hate giving anyone that sort of leeway but unfortunately I don`t get to make that call. I think with the economy, the decision makers here feel it`s better getting regular payment late versus no payment....ouch:o
