Good morning, I have a customer looking to use a driver, truck and trailer by the hour in the GTA. Been a while since I've done this and wondering what the going rate is these days? Thanks...

$50 - $100/hour - 4 hour minimum sounds about right, from the yard of course to return to said yard.

Mind you, I've no trucks so simply an educated guess...

Re Rob's posting.

Rob, do you turn your clock on starting from the yard or when your equipment gets to a customer? THX

hourly

my rate is 135.00 hr. some say its to much others are more than happy to pay $600. for a {tow truck} float ride to the repair shop . anyone paid for a tow lately:cool:

I'd say it depends on equipment but generally it's $65 per hour. Usually if billing is based on that it's dedicated transport, not here and there.

We had a contract about 5 years ago for 1 power unit, 2 trailers, to shunt between two buildings couple blocks apart for 16hrs day. Contract rate was $55/hr. We had it one year and when they went out to tender they wanted $38/hr, two way radios and a damage waiver on the trailers. We told them no and someone else came in and did it for what they wanted. Can't imagine what they are getting it done for now since the rates went down over the last couple of years!

That pretty much sums up the problem with this business. 4 replies ranging from $38.00 to $75.00 per hour (not counting the float).

The criteria needs to be narrowed down.

$38/hr is most likely a tractor only rate. The higher rates probably include the trailer. This is usually an owner operator doing local work for a carrier.

In greater MTL. , the rate for tractor and trailer (dry box) ranges between $65/hr & $75/hr. From yard to yard.

i guess at those rates it wont be long till theres a lot of trucks parked .then for those who didnt drop there pants and bend over will get there price cause cheap does not last . cheap is a temporary fix for someone who needs a fast buck .if you have a truck and the running costs . $50.00 and hour . maybe if fuel is free lic insur maint and dr lic medical and a parking spot . load brokers hmm if you guys think this is reality GREED if you can only pay penuts to haul it .get monkeys with grocery carts . no fuel no truck no driver to ask you dum questions . thers good paying loads out there but not after someone that dosent own a truck or have those debts gets a hold of it and trys to get more then the truck makes GREED

I don't know a lot of brokers that get involved in local cartage because there is no money it. Carriers set their own local rates and a majority of them are charged directly to the shipper. If you want to blame someone than blame other carriers that work for $50 an hour not brokers. My two cents

im bothered by the bad brokers not the good and fair . the cheap trucking companys arnt helping . the rates make it hard that people think it supose to be cheap but costs are high so there needs to be a higher rate no offence intended:D

Rates

Those rates stated are for local work, not regional.

The tractor is expected to do less than 400km /day in a 10 hr period, otherwise the rate is not viable.

Alx, I agree. But usually local work is that way ... a lot of time where the truck is in a dock somewhere or another.

Another note ... rates for vans versus specialized flats ... may as well be the difference between Atlanta and Alaska.
