OK...Can anyone explain what this "MEMBERSHIP FEE" of $ 200.00 is all about plus the ridiclious ANNUAL BASE PRICE of $ 3,720.00, then $ 180 per user is? oh wait...highway robbery....:rolleyes:

Like any other business, this company offers a service that you can purchase or not purchase.

Note making money is likely the goal (as is yours and mine)...

Maybe looking at the 'slimmed down versions' without too many bells and whistles can be a good fit for some.

Let me know if you find a reputable alternative, I'm all ears.

You have to "pay to play". When Link first started I had a business associate want to start up a similiar business.....if only I had listened.

But the old saying..........If "if's and but's" were "candy and nuts" - we'd all have a Merry Christmas.

Yup, it is. But as said on earlier posts until there is a viable alternative they can pretty much charge whatever they want. Some day there will be and the price will plummet. They know it, but in the meantime they have a very captive market. As long as carriers rely on it to find loads and brokers rely on it to find carriers. We are both a carrier and a broker and we do not use any load boards.

I use Internet Truckstop.. 115 per month and I do get trucks from it...

There are lots of other loadboards out there. In my opinion IT is useful although I don't know how it compares to the rest as it is the only one I use.. Some people like Get Loaded...load123.com is another one I hear more people are using.

I generally post only 30% of my loads... I get for the others by calling carriers I know..that seems easier.

For the moment if you are selling freight, you have the upper hand.

If you are a carrier looking to fill your trucks and do less than Full load, there really is no alternative.
 
It's an interesting model of business. They really are a software development company when you drill down and have an army of nerds to pay for and they're offering you access to what is basically a large database. I think of it this way: Link has been around for what, like 15 years or something like that? So in marketing terms, it's well past the early stages of their product lifecycle when new users and early adopters of any technology pay the highest prices (look at any Apple product). In theory, the cost should have been reduced because they have a huge share of the market and, frankly, even I know how to write software now so the cost of coding and creating software is limited to how much time you spend to develop it. In the world of today versus the world of 1995, an upstart "Link", if it was smart, would market itself by offering a free download of the software and then different packages based on levels of usage...infrequent posters of trucks or freight would pay less than those who might want full-on posting every minute. Plus, taking a page from the world of eBay, verification and dispute mechanisms when buyers and sellers of freight are troublesome. In my mind, Link could make just as much money, if not more, by having a lower monthly rate but base it on usage kind of like how you can manage your data usage on your cell phone or home internet.

The other thing that bothers me about Link is that it's not regulated by the CRTC under the Telecommunications Act, which states that nobody can operate a telecommunications service without filing rates with the CRTC and defines telecommunication as:

“telecommunications” means the emission, transmission or reception of intelligence by any wire, cable, radio, optical or other electromagnetic system, or by any similar technical system;

“telecommunications common carrier”

“telecommunications facility”

“telecommunications facility” means any facility, apparatus or other thing that is used or is capable of being used for telecommunications or for any operation directly connected with telecommunications, and includes a transmission facility;

“telecommunications service”

« service de télécommunication »

“telecommunications service” means a service provided by means of telecommunications facilities and includes the provision in whole or in part of telecommunications facilities and any related equipment, whether by sale, lease or otherwise;

“telecommunications service provider”

« fournisseur de services de télécommunication »

“telecommunications service provider” means a person who provides basic telecommunications services, including by exempt transmission apparatus;

“transmission facility”

« installation de transmission »

“transmission facility” means any wire, cable, radio, optical or other electromagnetic system, or any similar technical system, for the transmission of intelligence between network termination points, but does not include any exempt transmission apparatus.

It also defines "intelligence" as:

“intelligence”

« information »

“intelligence” means signs, signals, writing, images, sounds or intelligence of any nature;

So Link satisfies the definitions under the Act for being a facility and a common carrier to transmit information (intelligence) for compensation to the public and, therefore, their rates should be regulated. In fact, when Link is down and you can't use it, is that not comparable to when your phone at the office is down and you have to call the phone company, who is accountable to a government agency? When Link has that many users and market power, it's a wonder why nobody has stepped up and challenged them.
 
Actually, they were bought by Transcore years ago which is the parent company of DAT. They are pretty much all over the world in dealing with these types of softwares, and also have analysts that are able to report things going on in the industry in aggregate. They are one of the main sources that can tell anyone where demand exceeds supply and vice versa.

Basically, they'll go and buy competitors out that they think are a possible threat to them.
 
Just received my March link bill with a new charge for mobile monthly ($35) Not a service I signed up for but it's tacked on anyways. I left them a msg and hope to find out why soon.
 
We received the same. I have spoken to them. Apparently, it was an add-on which you had to request to be eliminated or it was charged. They have reversed the charge to us.

Either an email was sent to the prime account holder or it was specifically mentioned on invoice that we had a free trial period.

I checked it out and offered some feedback on the application itself (I rather liked it actually).

The need doesn't suit our procedures here so we opted not to continue after the trial period (in advance). Pretty sure it was in January...

Oldest trick in the book. I recall reading about their new service but missed the part about charging me until I told them not to weather I use it or not.
 
They did the same thing when they added the mapping function. You had to call and cancel it, not call to add the feature like they should have done. I tried the mobile app and didn't like it, not having live leads didn't make it very useful IMO. I'm glad I saw the letter and remembered to cancel before March.
 
Isn't that practice called negative billing and illegal? I know there were similar practices in the cell phone industry and they had to stop billing it and reimburse everyone.
 
I'm not on the Link, but if its anything like Truckstop.com it depends on the package you have with them. I can see who looks at my posts and they can see when I've looked at one of their posted trucks.

you mean the carrier search feature?
We can search for carriers or even search for trucks without having to post loads, but I thought carriers could do that too
 
People who post loads have a smaller radius than those looking for loads. It may be that the carrier is looking on a 400 mile radius but the broker posting the load only has a 100 mile radius.
