Hi All, I have a friend of mine who is an owner operator with a 5 tonne. He has a route that is done with every date at around 3pm. He was asking me if there is a need in the GTA for later afternoon or late night deliveries? We really don't get too many requests for this but is there any carriers or brokers out there who might be interested in getting his contact info? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

One more question on top of this, could he get on load link if he is the registered owner but the CVOR and insurance is under his daytime employers name? (I don't think so but have to ask)

Your friend is taking a big risk. He is not a carrier, he is an owner operator presumably under contract. That being the case the carrier is very unlikely going to permit him to move his own shipments on the side under their CVOR and insurance. In the event of an accident or a claim whose insurance is going to be involved? Whose CVOR is effected? I commend him for trying to add revenue, but the only was do to it legally (and morally) is to offer any new business to the carrier he is currently obligated to, have them bill it and he can take his cut.

Agreed!! From experience, most, if not all insurers are looking for an exclusivity contract for o/o's. He can't be moonlighting to make a couple extra bucks. Doubt his employer would allow him to do this also, especially due to his risk of insurance loss or CVoR violations.

Yes, I figured it might be a little shady for him to do so. That being said, is there much of a market out there for evening night time deliveries? He is thinking of maybe getting his own truck to do the work also but the volume has to permit of course....

His market should be carriers ( or 3PL's) who have some after hours deliveries but not enough to put a run together nightly. This forum is a good place to start, but I would simply spend a day on the phone going through the yellow pages and asking carriers what sort of need they may have for this type of service.
