Just a heads-up regarding poor service from this carrier. JSN Carriers, 25 Great Lakes Dr. Brampton. They wanted an LTL shipment we had going from North York, ON to Vernon, BC. last week. This shipment had a "must deliver" date of Tuesday before noon, for which we agreed to pay the premium rate they asked for. The shipment didn't get delivered until Wednesday and their excuse was that the fuel stops between SK and AB close early and they had to wait for fuel which delayed them one day. Why that should be either mine or my customers problem is beyond me. We have informed them that we are deducting $150.00 from the rate for the late delivery. They have contacted our customer threatening them with legal action. Fortunately, our customer told them their agreement was between them and us and to leave them alone. What bothers me the most about this, is we paid a premium for this shipment based on what the carrier asked for and promised to do. I have to ask myself, "why didn't they just lie to me and say they had a breakdown, delaying the delivery"? Again, just a heads-up that these folks don't do what they say they will do, and certainly can't be trusted with a shipment that has any kind of firm delivery date.

They probably have used the breakdown excuse so often they where afraid to use it again.

We had a similar situation BC to Ontario freight was to deliver on the 13th, lies and not answering phone ended up delivering on the 15th. Another company ended up doing the local delivery??? On our DNU

there are old posts on this company... my old handle the friendlybroker has a whole write up on these crooks.....

Actually there is a fuel shortage (unlike the mythical driver shortage) and many fuel stops are out of fuel. The Petro Pass in Saskatoon three weeks ago was only open from 8am to 6pm and then the pumps were turned off. Not saying folks shouldn't be on top of things like this but sometimes shit can happen.

"unlike the mythical drivers shortage" not sure if you are a driver or a company owner but I would put 10 trucks on today if we could find qualified drivers and yes we pay a very good wage and yes we are now turning away more loads than we haul every day. So if you know these mythical drivers please tell them there are lots of good companies looking for good drivers and they can get lots of miles and get paid.

Seems that some may be detached from the reality of the market. There are actually people who think that the driver shortage is a myth. You can find all kinds of drivers, but a good driver is very hard to find

Two things wrong with your reasoning..

Just because you could put more trucks on the road doesn't mean there's a driver shortage.
Second...if there were a real driver shortage, store shelves would be empty, goods wouldn't get to market, freight rates would have risen significantly and so would the wages.

I'm still seeing many carriers still paying rates which are 10 years out of date...

And many still not abiding by the Federal Labour Act and paying overtime after 60hrs per week. (yes folks, that is the law...http://www.todaystrucking.com/overtime-pay-for-drivers)

Sorry but I'm with ralph, this is a case of some in the industry choosing the 'chicken little' approach to create a designed panic so that the governments open the doors to more cheap labour coming in from overseas.

See: temporary foreign workers

Seems that some may be detached from the reality of the market.
Detached from reality eh...hmm, you mean like as in the cheap freight rates still being offered and accepted and bitched about by most?
There are actually people who think that the driver shortage is a myth.
Yes there are..most are drivers too that see truckstops full with trucks waiting for loads, rates not going up and drivers from overseas constantly asking about jobs being offered for them to come work in Canada...

Again, if there's a shortage, why aren't rates going up like they do with everything else in the world... gas/oil shortage, the price goes up overnight....

You can find all kinds of drivers, but a good driver is very hard to find
Now that is a true statement.
