Good afternoon Everyone,

Did anyone have to renew IRP this year? A few trucking companies have reached out to me saying they have been unable to renew their IRP plates since March 2025 when IRP offices consolidated with ServiceOntario. I have logged in to the online portal and the following messege came up:

As of March 3, 2025, International Registration Plan (IRP) services are provided by ServiceOntario.

The ServiceOntario IRP Processing team will be responsible for processing IRP applications, issuing fee notices and scheduling appointments for in-person services. This team will also manage applications submitted via mail or courier, IRP applications can be sent via email to IRPProcessing@ontario.ca.

In-person IRP services are available at 16 ServiceOntario locations, by appointment only, across the province. Local IRP offices have stopped operating as of February 28, 2025. [5728]

Our team hasnt been impacted as of this moment but wanted to share the news and hear back from the community about your interaction this year with IRP renewals?

We finally have an IRP Fee notice (invoice) with the help of my MPP. I'm on my 3rd email requesting an appointment but do not get a reply. This is for fleet renewal from March which the extension will expire on Wed.
Very frustrating.

There is now a link to book appointments once you have received the invoice. Its very easy to book the appointment this way.

It was also just announced that there will be a further extension on renewals, Any plates renewing between March 31 and May 31st will be valid until June 30, 2025.

We are set to expire on Wednesday. We submitted our application online on April 9th. When I emailed to inquire about our fee notice I got this reply. I sent another email last week and haven't heard back... very frustrating.

Important: Thank you for your application, we are working through applications in a priority sequence.

If you have an URGENT request (e.g., lost/stolen replacement plates, permit, or validation sticker), please use the subject line "URGENT: LOST/STOLEN REPLACEMENT REQUIRED", and we will contact you within 1 business day.

As a reminder, in-person services are available by appointment and will be scheduled once you have been issued a fee notice (invoice) by the IRP Processing Team.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation.

Best Regards,
IRP Processing Team

Received this email this morning regarding this issue

""
(TORONTO, April 28, 2025) – In a letter received this morning, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has confirmed a registration extension.

Specifically, the letter states:

An additional registration extension is being provided to Ontario IRP Registered Carriers and will remain valid through June 30, 2025. This additional extension means that all Ontario IRP Registered Carriers with plates expiring between March 31, 2025, and May 31, 2025, will remain valid through June 30, 2025. This information has been communicated to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation Enforcement Office, to IRP Inc. and all other IRP jurisdictions.

The letter also highlights improvements made to the appointment scheduling process with a new online tool that will come along with fee notices.

“While the extensions and scheduling tools will provide some relief, our focus needs to getting drivers and trucks moving that have outstanding applications. The costs associated with trucks not being able to move is unacceptable, leaving fleets and a number of drivers grounded, unable to work. During these challenging times, we need everything focused on supporting our drivers and fleets, especially those small business owners and owner-operators who have bills to pay”, said Geoff Wood, OTA Sr. VP Policy.

Full details from the letter (English & French) can be found here. Details contained on IRP website can be found here.

OTA will remain engaged on this issue until the IRP Program is stabilized.

OTA members with outstanding applications that have not been addressed can provide details to operations_safety@ontruck.org . In your email, please provide the IRP Account #, details of the transaction (e.g. add new vehicle), copies of the application documents submitted and any financial details associated with the costs incurred to date. OTA will be analyzing the financial impact as a result of the IRP challenges to determine if a case can be made for future government relief. ""

Hope this helps

I finally got an appointment last week to replace a lost plate after 5 weeks. Went to the Hamilton Service Ontario, lady behind the counter had no clue on what she was doing and still tool 35 minutes to process with the help of a trainer ( Patty from the Stoney Creek IRP was watching over her shoulder doing the training) They guy with the appt !/2 hour before mine had waited 2 months for an appointment to plate a new truck. I can't see the backlog being cleared up for at least 6 to 8 months yet. Total gov't BS.
