inBond shipment mess

Hello friends

I'm still dealing with an "in bond" shipment from Friday and not sure what's the problem. I'm posting here - has anyone ran into this in past and could help me?

We had a US bonded shipment, since we are NOT a bonded carrier we used other carrier's bond. Custom brokers are now telling me that they are unable to process the bond because our |SCAC code is deleted from US customs system?

I have just done few manifests and crossed the border without any problems.
Does anyone know what could be the problem?

In order to enter the USA you must have prepared an ACE manifest and filled out the in bond section in order to have been able to cross.

Can it be that the ACE manifest your driver crosssed under has your SCAC code, and not the SCAC code of the carrier that lent you their bond. Your SCAC code does not register as a bonded carrier , hence the confusion.

My driver didn't cross yet. We are just waiting for the bond and custom brokers (tried two) are not able to process our bond because they say that our "SCAC code" is not active or deleted. But that's not true as we have done so many Ace manifests this week and my drivers have crossed without any problems.

By the way - is the the procedure? Do we need to use other carriers SCAC code in order to cross?

I had on occasion borrowed other carriers US bond's over the last few years. Generally, carriers are reticent to loan their bond due to the heavy fines levied for not cancelling the bond properly. Carriers usually charged $100.00 per use. Our usual sources have stopped loaning their bonds. Pretty much since the ACE manifest arrived.

Pre ACE, the customs broker would require a letter from the bond holder, allowing for the one time use of their US bond.
I am almost certain that with the ace manifest you would have to use the carriers SCAC code in order to get it to work.

I do not know how you could set up an ACE manifest using someone else's SCAC code.
As for using different brokers, you should be using the exporters customs broker, they sipmly set it up as a bonded shipment.

Are going to use a TIP or a T&E bond?

You can set up an ACE using someone elses SCAC code if you have a letter granting you power of attorney to do so. I have done shipments for Trans X in this manner in the last couple months. In my systems my SCAC id is the default but I can use anyones just by typing in their code.
