So here's the thing. My wife and I do watch some news, although mainly CP24 which is just headlines. Lately our free television time is being consumed by the NHL Playoffs. That being said we chose to use the 2 hour English candidate debate to help educate us on the politicians that are all running to rule, I mean lead our country.
One of us has decided they are party loyal, because their parents and grandparents have all been loyal to that party without considering a single word that politician has to say. Even after watching the debate, they are party loyal despite some interesting details discussed.
One of us has decided that 'the best person with the best platform' will get my, I mean 'their' vote. Here's the problem, I like some of what Pierre said, I like some of what Mark said, I like some of what that Bloc Quebecois guy said too.
I guess I'll just have to go with my gut...

How are you deciding? What is influencing your decision the most? One thing is for sure: if you don't vote you don't have the right to complain. GO VOTE!!!

I did not have the pleasure of watching the debate. I do not watch, or listen to news of any sort, from any source, because all that is done is to pick, choose and sometimes edit what was said which most of the time can change the context. I'm afraid I have become a bitter man when it comes to the situation that I find myself in regarding Canada. I have made up my mind and cast my vote already. In my opinion, what is needed to fix the country:
  • More enforcement of all laws. If there is a law, enforce it, otherwise have the law stricken. A lack of enforcement only negatively affects law abiding citizens.
  • Fix the justice system. If you break the law, pay the dime or pay the time; no freebies and make the decision quick. Judges need to fix from within and work with government to create laws that stick in the way the law was intended.
  • No taxes, fees, penalties, or clawbacks only to give it back. No give aways. Any time the government gives out money for something there should be a business case done to ensure it is in the best interest of Canada and its citizens.
  • Invest in Canada's Armed Forces (CAF). A country our size should have a federal 'army' at its disposal to respond to emergencies. CAF should be utilized when we have floods, fires, ice storms (snow storms in Toronto), and anything similar that happens in Canada. We don't need them to be trained soldiers but an infantry that can get stuff done and a chain of command that will see it gets done.
This is a small list of the bigger items that I quickly came up with.

In respect to our industry it's about time we had a Federal carrier administration much like the US does. Carriers that run inter-provincial and to the US should be monitored Federally with the assistance of the provincial carrier authority. If you have IRP plates, you play by Federal rules and as such should be monitored Federally.

I certainly would not wish to be the next Canadian Prime Minister. It will be a tough job and none of the candidates that are running will be able to do it. I just hope the election puts someone in who doesn't bring down the house of cards that we find ourselves in right now.

I don't know it's a hard choice, I'm a young Canadian and I want to make sure myself or any of my fellow young Canadians never own a home suitable to raise a family in.

On one hand Mr. Carney has promised to put A CAP on immigration at 2 million a year (why so low Mr Carney????) ensuring that businesses get the sweet steady supply of dirt cheap labour they need (I make sure to tip every CEO I interact with) while also ensuring that housing prices remain buoyant. I suppose with only 2 million a year a couple lucky landlords could fit 12 men into a basement.

On the other hand Mr Pollivevre has said that he'll set up direct flights to Amritsar, I like this approach because not only does it mean we'll be giving money to Air Canada (the best run airline in the world #ElbowsUP) but on top of that it means we'll have absolutely no diversity when it comes to culture. He'll be linking Immigration to house starts which means that there will ALWAYS be a buyer ready to snatch up any excess supply, genius really- built in demand.

I have a lot of thinking to do before I cast my vote tomorrow.

You posted this on the day of the election at 5.00pm. I hope you were joking when you stated, 'cast my vote tomorrow'. I didn't quite get your post - I am horrible with sarcasm.

That’s exactly right Jim L. Unless it is perfectly and cleverly crafted, sarcasm can make the writer look quite smart or just as easily quite foolish.
