Hi Guys,
Concerning my Ottawa to Saskatoon posting, had the above company call on taking the FTL's out. Anyone dealt with them? They are based in Ottawa, ON.

Seems Matelas 1 runs under IBC Distribution authorities. They have that 2 searches per day load link so can't get much info on them.

Any info would be much appreciated!

Yes, ICB is the main company but it's one of those "we work in the same office" and he is Matelas 1.
 
I'm not sure about Metelas but I dealt with Luc at ICB and he did a good job for us. They were referred to us from Giant Tiger in Ottawa.

I deal with Matelas UN (1) is Name is Daniel St-Amour base 805 Boul.wilfrid Laving Gatineau PQ.
I don't know if it's the same company but I want to inform everybody he is holding my freight and try to double charge me .
He told me he want a certify check at the delivery or he will charge me fees for FTL back an forth Montreal Gatineau .
This guy have one dry van and do the west Canada to Montreal ...DO NOT USE...@ your own risk I might have to call the police on him.

God Damn!!!! Why didn't we find this sooner? Seems that this Matelas Un character is holding our freight hostage as well. Contracted with him to move a forklift from Gatineau to Brampton. It req'd a tow truck or tilt and load to place the fork lift onto the trailer which he agreed to arrange. Now this POS is telling us that not only did the fork lift damage the first tilt and load, put unbelievably....a second one as well! Demanding approx. 15K for the damage and time and labour. Not surprising that the invoice he sent as proof of all this extensive damage is on his invoice, not a repair facility. Neither the shipper or ourselves had an accurate weight of the standard warehouse forklift. We estimated 5-6ooolbs. Perhaps it was 8000lbs, we are still not sure. As is usually the case, the Gatineau police are not interested in getting involved with a civil dispute, nor is their insurer willing to move forward as he has not notified them of a claim. We have sent both his insurer and ours an Intent to Claim for freight loss, so hopefully I can report back next week to my fellow members how this situation plays out. Without question, as spy69 mentioned DO NOT USE!
 
Loader just an fyi my 6000lb lift Cat has a dry weight of 10400lbs. If any of you brokers or carriers are ever wondering about machinery weights check out Ritchie Specs on google. They have most weights and dimensions for everything you could want on there. A very useful tool in dealing with equipment but remember all weights are dry weight so add for antifreeze, fuel oil etc as to not get yourself in trouble.





This guy sounds like a piece of work good luck to you both and thanks for the heads up on this crook.

Just a quick follow up to this disaster. After contacting both the carriers insurers and our own, we received a much more civilized response from this character. After paying a ransom of $1000.00 as opposed to the original $15K, we were able to retrieve our shipment and deliver it to our customer. Our original estimate of the forklift's weight was off by approx 1500lbs. How this could cause damage to his trailer is still beyond me, unless of course he tried to complete the pick up on his 6'X 8' utility trailer pulled by his Nissan Altima! In any case, this is definitely a company that everyone should steer well clear of. From our experience, I have no problem calling this guy a crook....plain and simple.
