Had a shipment (international) come in from overseas and was not crated correctly. I had it rerouted to a cross dock facility for storage and proper crating. The cross dock facility is charging me HST. As I am not the end user and this is a continuation of an international shipment does HST get charged here? Am i confusing the situation with no HST on the transportation portion only?

Thanks in advance!

as far as I know HST is charged once only on the transportation of the goods. when the movement of freight is sub contracted/brokered it is considered "interlined" and exempt from HST being charged again. Storage, cross docking, re-packing are not part of the transportation of the freight so it is taxable (in CRA's eyes).
