We had to pick up yeasterday from Hanna Paper - Markham - On-
They loaded my trailer with 47600 lbs !!!! I have 53 dry van twoaxel !
When my driver told them that is overweight , they said , NO , IT IS OK !!!
So I called my broker and I told them that I am very MAD and I want to cancel the load and he called the shipper and asked them to take out 4000 lbs !
So be aware with "" Hanna Paper "" !!!!
 
There are lots of shippers that try to ship that weight within Canada and that is a perfectly legal weight if licenced for 39000 lbs gross. However how good it is for your trailer is another question.

Was it a shippment going to the USA.

Was this a load destined to the USA or for Canada.
Generally for the USA with a light tractor and dry box you should be good for about 47,000lbs , which is close to what a 44,000lbs load + cpc skids and packaging will actually weigh.

For Quebec -Onatrio a 5 axle rig is good for 89000 gross, with your tare around 34000 that leaves you with 55000 payload.
 
Depending on how your vehicles are licensed, 47,600 lbs would have been legal in Ontario. A 5 axle combo can gross to 92000 lbs.

You need to specify your net weight limits of the vehicles when booking loads into the U.S.

Some lighter tractors with a 53' trailer could have pulled that load legal into the U.S at 80,000 lb gvw.
 
Within Canada, especially if the haul isn't too long, you need to be really careful about it. If you're a cross-border carrier that is using freight within Canada as a means to reposition, you're going to find that the highway spec'd tractors are less than ideal.

When I ran trucks, I purposely licensed in Ontario for 37500# kgs gross so that when I needed to do a heavier load from Montreal or something back home, we did it. Cost a little more for the plates though.

Just gave information from my 15 years of driving and 10 years of administrative experience.

As a carrier We will not accept a load that is over 44,000 + skids that goes into or comes from the US. Depending on the packaging the weight will come close to 46000 lbs.
The problem now is how to spread the weight correctly over the axles, you may not be over gross but you can be over axial, especially if you have a trailer with the slider holes very far apart.

If you have a recent light tractor and you run 1/2 tanks of fuel it is manageable, although we frown upon it.
 
I have trucks that can pull 47000 legal into the states. I just wonder why some repeat, some brokers refuse to be up front about the weight and why some shippers think 47 is the new 44? The part that really gets me is when they think they need a 53 because it will be right to the doors............Axle weight don't count I guess - love explaining trucking 101 to freight brokering professionals. To the brokers that know your poop good deal to the ones that haven't got a clue. Please learn the business if you are going to be in it..

I know I may date myself by posting this, but it does stir up old memories of Howard at Hemispheres International and their very heavy brake components.
