The loss of life is horrific, and it has just become known that the driver of the straight truck was employed by Speedy Transport of Brampton.

Accident

The French news channel was reporting at 5:30 am that the truck driver was in fact working for Speedy.
Apparently the van carrying the workers did not stop at the intersection as it should have.
The driver of the big truck tried to swerve to avoid the van but could not.

They had sent a reporter to the scene.

I watched this on CP24 this morning a real tragedy.

The Speedy driver was in a straight truck and the van ran a stop sign but the former SGT Camera Wooley was quick to point out that they will have to check the trucks speed limiter and computer to make sure he was compliant.

What a Douche!! Did a truck driver steal that azzhats wife or something?

Wooley is an idiot.

When he was an officer he always wanted to be a TV star and I guess now he is one.

Trucker steal his wife? Naw Rob... it looks to me like he ate her :D.

whoa just a bit

While I can't argue that Wooley may or may not be an idiot, he is correct in his explanation of the process.
Every bit of evidence must be evaluated to determine exactly what happened. While most of us transportation hacks can visualize the straight truck driver reefing the wheel to avoid a collision, in order to replicates or model the scenario exact information is required. Perhaps he didn't need to use the word "compliant," as we have a specific interpretation, nor limiter; however depending on the truck there is a fair bit of information available.

I guess the bottom line here is that 11 innocent people are dead due to someone's negligence, whether it's human error or mechanical, it's a terrible, terrible thing.

Yes...a tragedy indeed....

But we all know here, even if a car drives into a truck, they will look for something wrong with the truck and driver. Always our fault...or guilty until proven innocent if you will.

I can't remember where exactly in the US, but some guy my dad was friends with smashed into a police cruiser and killed the 2 inmates in the back seat. The inmates got rowdy so the cop stopped in the traffic lane with NO beacons to stop them from fighting.

Despite the cop's testimony that it was HIS fault for not pulling over to the shoulder, the truck driver was convicted of dangerous driving causing death......

If you drive a rig, you're AUTOMATICALLY guilty, 9 times out of 10.
