I got a call from Gold Freight Wednesday. They wanted to book my reefer load. I got all their authorities - called 2 of the 3 references, checked their safer report. Everything checked out. Until I got a call at 11pm wondering where my truck was. I called and called the 24hour # with no answer. So I googled them and found another #. I called it and got the owner of Gold Freight who knew nothing about my load, they only had 2 trucks and they are both at home. I confirmed his authority #s with him. The only difference we found was in the email address - goldfreight@ and gold.freight@

Either they chickened out or they realized that 53' of fish was not going to be an easy sell.

I filed a police report and the true owner of Gold Freight was going to do so as well.

Please Beware - just when you think you have done everything right the crooks still break through. I'm just glad they don't have my customer's load on board.

I have dealt with a lot of these scammers. Did the person you booked the load with give you a name? I find they use the same name all the time and just change the company name. For Example Chris Yaun uses three or four different company names.

He went by the name Dave Zaxon. Called me back at 5am saying the truck was late and would be there this morning for the load. The shipper will call me if the truck shows up and we will call the police.

I tried returning his call to tell him to go ahead and get the load but got no answer again this morning

He is either trying to do one of two things. Either get the load from you or pay someone else more then he is getting and keep the money. Did he ask for a fuel advance once loaded? That is another way they scam they take off with the advance. Or they want to pick up the load so they can sell it.

So he started calling again about 9:30 am insisting his driver was sitting in door# 8 (my customer has 3 doors). Then the driver (Luke) called my customer looking for directions. We had the police there waiting for them but they did not show up.

So beware - this guy is still on the lose looking for freight to take and sell....I don't understand if he was not gonna show up - why he started calling me again this morning?

Sigh....I feel 5 years older after this and I am pretty sure my blood preasure is not where it should be. Stay on your toes everyone.

Krista good catch what area of the country are you operating out of please and thanks?

Hi Lowmiler88

I am in the Georgetown, ON area as Route Runner Logistics. They wanted my fresh load to California. Sad part is I feel I did what I could when checking into them before awarding them the load. Bottom line is I checked out the carrier and all was well and they still are.

Just not the guy that was borrowing their name. We did not catch them yet but they are also not selling my freight :)

Advice Please,

Friday night I got a threatening phone call from David asking me why I called the cops. I simply said those are not your authorities. He told me to mind my own business and if he heard from me or the cops again there would be a lot of problems come my way. That's the short version but sums it up. Anyone ever have this problem or suggestions?

Thanks
Krista

I would advise David if he calls again that all calls are recorded. That will probably be the last time you hear from him.

However, a lesson to all. It would appear that the days of "due diligence" of checking insurance and authorities are over. If you are not 100% sure of who you are giving the load to, then you simply have to hold your ground and wait till you do.

Welcome to 2012.

I agree with Htcollections. If you are receiving threatening phone calls from him, the authorities better be made aware of it. They already have a file for the complaint, so it wouldn't take much effort to let them know you were contacted by him again and threatened. I agree you probably won't hear from him again, but you don't know who you are dealing with and might want to play it safe.
