East & West Transport/Group East & West

We use East & West but only on shipments originating in the Toronto area destined for Western Canada that are not time sensitive. In this regard they have provided standard quality service.

East & west

We had 4 invoices O/S from beginning of May for $950.00. We owed them $950.00 from end of June. Our A/R to them was at @ 80 days old and their A/R from us was at 30 days. When I finally got in touch with someone she bascially told me that they wanted to do a cheque swap. I said "no" that there invoices were almost 60 days older then ours. She basically said that if we didnt want to do that then they would just adjust their invoice off and apply it to ours because they could not pay. Thank goodness we at least hand something to wash with or who knows when they would of paid us. They are on our DNU list.

If your shipment is coming out of the USA East West will just double broker it to a carrier to bring it to Toronto. After that I am not sure how they get it out west as all the equipment I have seen I do not believe could make it to Alberta without a breakdown it is all pretty shoddy looking.

I've hired them before, and they double broker. I've also run into the problem where I gave them a full load (which was to be sealed once loaded) and when they arrived at my shipper they already had 1/2 a load on the trailer, they wanted my freight to go on bars. They have good rates, but in my opinion they are not very reliable.

I am a newbie on this site, so i am a little late responding. AVOID USING THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. We too used them once back in 2008 for Western Canada freight. I was called and told the freight was put on the rail in a consilidation container and the rail had an accident and the entire container was a write off. The entire claim a nightmare. Nobody authorized him to rail it for one. CN had no record of such a derailing up around Thunder Bay as he claimed.Lies. And get this " his insurance company advised me that this claim is not going to be covered as they have no rail coverage. I had to sue and won abut not after several promises from Johnny and later on several threats and intimaidating screaming from him. Class act. $18,000 claim had to settle 2 years later for $16,000 . One of these checks bounced and was never replaced. I advised everyone I knew of my 5 skids of shrikwrapp that went mysteriously missing off a railcar that did not exist. Heard from another carrier that had a similiar inicdent with a TL of towmotors worht 1/2 million they claim. Me and him also just discovered they just opened a new Calgary office and warehouse, Oh to be a fly on the wall and be able to read serial numbers. lol

After the intimdation and threats I had heard to others that he apparently has escorted off his lot, I advised my lawyer that if my home/business is blownup. Look at this guy as I live right around the corner from him. Your right his equipment is rough looking and a whole lot of cross-docking seems to happen there.

We have used them before, last time was over a year ago on a series of shipments going to AB from MI. It looks like they picked up the shipments, and based on the service interval they went direct.

What I find in general is that for LTL going to Western Canada, one carrier is worse than the other unforunately. And playing the game of railing and representing as road ... all too common.

May as well go intermodal in the first place ... at least you know what you're getting. And intermodal full load service within Canada is almost as fast as road service except for team.

We did many shipment for them in the past from NY, PA to their dock until we realized that all their freight was double brokered. But I haven't seen their postings at all lately. Are they still around even?

Gave them a load from IN to AB.

It was invoiced to us with out a POD. We requested POD as most brokers do. It took forever. We did contact the consignee and got a verbal acknowledgment that the freight delivered. All seemed fine until we finally demanded the POD... Everything came back as P/U'd and Del'd by Schneider National.

On our DNU list.

well 3 or 4 years ago sold them load tidem OTR Trenton ON to Delta BC, was paper skidded bill of lading from our shipper was KG, Jonny and their dock personal missed that one figured it was in LB, so the added LOTS more freight and actully moved it OTR BUT way overweight!!!! Took me driving to their office, standing there until they actually delivered the cargo as it shipped on a Tuesday for dlv Monday as paper going to press on Wed 6am, delivered at 1545 the Wed.

Ok I have to share this one - Jonny just called on one of my postings!!!! Told him he has a better chance seeing God than ever getting one of my shipments>>>>>>>he is filing a complaint with our VP now about my unprofessional actions I am bringing to this company!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

All I have to say is...

Thank you Inside Transport and Thanks you everyone that post here.

I was in the process of giving him an LTL from Atlanta, GA to Calgary, AB when I decided to check it out here to see if he was reputable.

Looks like I just saved myself tons of grief AND A CUSTOMER.

I can't thank all of you enough...

Group East West

I can see some brokers have had issues with Group East West. I use them often and never had issues - not saying one may come up but none for now. Brokers seem to think that running a transport business with trucks, drivers, roads or weather always runs smooth. This is why brokers are afraid of actually owning a transport company because they couldn't handle all the variables that go along in running a real transport company. As a broker/carrier I know the frustrations of running both styles of business and running a carrier style of business is no picnic. Brokers should remember this before verbally bashing a transport company.

I have found out that East West double-brokers out loads, say they are going to pick up freight and not show up.

If they have changed, good for them but I don't trust them yet.
