I have a customer who utilizes DTA Services Ltd. for their payables.
Has anybody had any recent collection difficulties with this company?

Many Thanks!

One of our major customers used DTA for years and it was a constant headache. They would miss invoices, return invoices for the smallest of errors (returning them at the 30 day mark, not before). This was however, about 5 years ago and hopefully they have improved since then. Needless to say, our customer stopped doing business with them after many complaints from our firm and other transport suppliers. Good luck!

Thanks loaders.

This is in regards to long term customer (13 yrs.), and DTA has managed their payables for the duration. I haven't had too many problems until recently. One thing I have always been insistent on is being paid within terms or receiving some compensation for going beyond. Their cavalier response to this mutual long term customer now being put on a credit hold seems of less concern to them, than with their conformation to their normal glacial paced operating practices, regardless of the effect on either of us. It causes me to question the intelligence of a supposed "professional", and therefore their competence.

Interesting Activet. It would seem then, that DTA has reverted to their previous way of conducting business. My experience with them, upon further investigation, was more like 12 years ago. Your comment about their attitude towards your mutual customer can apply to many of the payment agencies operating today. Instead of servicing their customer with prompt, reliable payments to suppliers, they seemed more interested in stretching out payments, returning invoices for the slightest of errors, i.e, one wrong digit in a zip code, etc. and timing the mailing of cheques so that weekends and stat holidays can further delay receipt. In my case, our customer stopped using them because they had to assign a person to handle the many complaints from suppliers, thereby negating any financial advantage to using DTA or similar agencies.

We also deal with DTA and for the last couple of years - no problems. We followed up on the last cheque that was late and they told us that is had been cashed. They sent us a copy of the cheque the bank returned to them and it had been endorsed and deposited into someone else's bank account fraudulently. After speaking to them on the phone, there have been a few instances like this some of which they have discovered but they said in the cases they have found, the carrier has not always been contacting them.

Make sure you call them and if they say they've sent you the cheque and claim it's been deposited, make sure you get a copy of the cheque from them.

It all started a few months ago when they moved location. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for now given the last couple of years we've had with them, but something funny is going on there.

I agree with you TKTLMAN, and do give the benefit of doubt normally, and agree that things have changed since they moved, but that has nothing to do with apparent the lack of concern that I have been met with. One would think that a company that holds itself out to be professionals in this industry would give a "heads up", to those who are expecting payment, and perhaps offer to courier replacement checks.

I'm absolutely certain that none of the carriers that hauled my customers product are at all interested that DTA has experienced what I've just learned are ongoing problems with their mail. Fortunately, I have the working capital to pay carriers regardless of DTA's problems.

It looks like I'll have to take the same approach as with customers who insist on using Livingston as their Customs Broker - add a 2% surcharge if I have to deal with them.

We also had a customer who used DTA for about 3 years, rumour was that our customer was also an owner in DTA., don't know if there was any truth to this but eventually they did go back to paying bills themselves
