Hello,

How often does your company conduct criminal background checks?

At our company, we complete a criminal background check during the pre-employment process, and we also require one annually for each driver. We are a Canadian company providing international transportation services within the United States.

Many drivers find it expensive to pay $45 every year for a criminal record check, so I would like to compare our practices with those of other companies. I have heard that some companies conduct a full criminal background check every two to three years, and in the years in between, they require drivers to sign a disclosure confirming that they have had no new convictions and that they remain eligible to travel into the United States.

We do a pre-hire check and then a disclosure signed every year. The driving abstract we pull every year

Such a slippery slope.

We do every year here but it's mostly cause we deliver into some military and port locations, military in the US, you gotta provide driver details ahead of time and they do their own background check to confirm.

If you don't deliver into places like that on the regular, you'd probably be okay with every few years with a driver sign off I'd think.
