Although it has been around for years, we have noticed an increase lately in this fraudulent billing scheme. For those not familiar with it, it is devilishly simple. A carrier, say, ABC Trucking does a load for you. All goes well and they submit their invoice for the agreed amount, which you in turn pay within your agreed terms. A very short time after, usually within a day or two, you receive an invoice from a factoring company for the exact same load, only this time the carrier is ABC Transport. Of course, being a well organized, well staffed brokerage, this attempt at double payment is discovered and the factor is notified of the fraud. Be particularly vigilant these days, especially with factored loads, as whenever the possibility exists for a crook to get double payment, they will try.
