Do you do this???

Safer is a good start but it really only touches the surface of the data that is available for someone that is thinking about hiring a new carrier.

There are services ( Carrier 411, SaferWatch, Carrier Assure, Freight Validate etc) that arrange the data in a manner that assists you to make a decision whether you're willing to take the risk or not.

There is also a service called "Genlogs" with collects data from roadside cameras... attaches it to the vins, plates and who they're registered to. So, even if a carrier hasn't been pulled in for inspection... you can still get proof that they're running trucks up and down the road.

There's lots you can do to protect yourself.

One of the easiest things to protect yourself is to avoid the race to the cheapest price... If a carrier does a good job on a load from Indianapolis to Toronto... then they ought to be your first call next time you get anything remotely close. Most carriers like to deal with the same core of brokers over and over... Brokers that get to know the carrier and what they do well... their likes and dislikes and build off of that.

If your brokerage business model is to find the absolute rock bottom cheapest carrier for every load... you'll get what you pay for.... and good luck to you.
