Are most of you doing outbound, inbound.. what's your mix of freight? Most of mine is inbound.. never seemed to have much luck brokering freight south.

For us the split is pretty much 50/50. About 15-20% of the outbound is Canadian domestic. Never had a big problem moving outbound, provided the rates were there. Availability with all lanes is the problem, right now.

70% inbound for us, 30% outbound. We are seeing quite an uptick in RFQ's and Bids for outbound due to the market change. Having a hard time moving freight to OH.... it's insane, I have dealt with this lane for so long and I can't remember the last time I couldn't find a driver/truck to handle.

Its the ELD effect on short hauls, if its 400 miles a guy could do it in a day most of the time. Now its a full two day trip with short mileage both days. Drivers want at least 650 miles from Toronto so they can max out their ELD's, come back the next day with another 650 miles and make $800 instead of $480 going to Ohio in the same amount of time away from home.

I have a friend how goes to Ohio from GTA empty 5 days a week and bringing 5 loads back.
And he insist it works well for him..
Your friend is getting good money for one leg but the outbound rate is crazy good too. I knew a guy that brought six trucks home empty from Montreal to Brampton every day. He was making so much one way...........all good things come to an end and he is out of business now because he lost his head haul. When those wheels are turning you have to have "pay" in the box!

I do agree with you, Good M..
For him it's a timing issue..
He's telling me that this way he is more productive..
On the other hand, he is long enough on this lane, so in case of something he can make an adjustment..

Would work even better for him if he took loads south as well.. Last I heard ON to OH was 5.00 plus per mile..
