Good Morning everyone!

Any feedback or comments on

Distribution TGL Express, based in Anjou, QC?

Thanks !

I use TGL mostly for local Montreal - Tandem, 3-Axle (occasional Quad-Axle). They also service Ottawa and Quebec City. Good carrier - affiliated with Transport Real Caron in Anjou

Very good and reliable carrier indeed.

Try speaking to Gilles.

Just sending Gilles a fax now for a local Greater Montreal delivery.

Excellent service. I believe they are now owned by Real Caron.

Yes they are owned by Real Caron now.
They were moving regular loads for us, approx. 4-5 a week.
They were approached by our customer directly, and started moving for them.
I find that pretty crappy. I have had honest carriers approached by our customers and they call ME to tell me about it and refuse to move for the customer direct. Thats the right thing to do in my opinion.
We pay all of our carriers in 30 days on the button(sometimes earlier with Quick Pay!), and Im sure they wont get that from our customer!

In a case like that the customer didn't see the value in your markup. He DID see that you were sending in the same carrier on a regular basis, and they saw an opportunity to shave I'm guessing 10 to 20% off of their freight bill.

The carrier really can't refuse the shipper...The shipper is ultimately the customer, and the shipper could have said fine, we'll find another carrier, and then he as well as you would be out of that business.

Sometimes we need to remember that not every transaction requires a broker in the middle of it, and when that's the case we need to let it run its natural course i.e. letting the carrier and the shipper work together directly. This is why we as brokers need to focus on freight that can justify our margin..if all we're doing is dispatching the same carrier to the same shipper then it won't be long before someone, the carrier or the shipper, sees the value in cutting the broker out of the transaction.

I actually disagree. If that were the case, companies like Wheels, Ryder, Schneider Logistics etc wouldn't be able to exist.

But if you're only doing one lane and you use the same carrier, I agree you're doomed. It's about adding value on several levels.

The client did it to you and he will do it to them when the next carrier comes along and knocks 5$ off a skid. Shippers like that are a dime a dozen.

But at the same time, this is when the carrier should accept the bid request from the shipper, but add 10 to 20% to the prices, which nullifies the price argument.
If the shipper just doesn't want to deal with a broker on that lane then so be it, but obviously the carrier knows the broker is not working for free so he should be charging more to the customer directly. I also believe the carrier should let the broker know as (hopefully) the broker is feeding them other freight which is the whole point of dealing with a broker.

That being said, we all know there's always some guy out there willing to do it cheaper, and will do it cheaper until they start screwing up and then the customer goes back... just another cycle in this crazy industry.
