WOW

This company usually posts their rates in the comments on load link (none high enough for me to call on).

Today I saw a rate that's just degrading to the industry - posted at 11:36 am and still posted 5:13pm (so no mistake).

Niagara Falls, ON to Knoxville, TN for $500 USD on 730 loaded miles - that's 68 cents a mile to the truck.

Need I say more? I'm speechless.

I stopped calling those cats months ago and I can tell you that anything that is generally posted out of Niagara Falls by them and two other companies is peat moss. Peat moss loads tend to be cheap and adding the fact that they exist suggests that not even the carriers based in the area won't do them either, so there's no room in the rate to reposition a truck from another city to make it worthwhile. Let any cheap load sit is what I say and drive by it. You will know they are having problems if they call you instead of you calling them.

Peat Moss Loads

To my knowledge you can get most peat moss loads directly from the manufacturer extractor.

They generally pay in $US AND ARE PAID THE OLD WAY ( PROPER WAY NO BROKERS DELAYING PAYMENT, IN 14 DAYS.)

Why would one go through a broker?

I'm surprised people will haul it. It's cheap, and makes a mess of the trailer once it's offloaded ... one usually ends up having to spend a couple of hours at least cleaning it up so that someone else will load it.

But hey, basically you're hauling manure around.

Not to mention in a lot of cases the driver is required to bring the bags to the rear of the trailer.

So, it's drive for 8 - 10 hours... then spend the next 4 hours hand bombing dirty wet bags of peat to the back of the trailer. Of course by the time you're finally empty dispatch has you booked for a back haul an hour away that closes early... it's not fun freight for anyone.

I've never hauled it myself ... but I can't begin to tell you how many times I've had trucks that were refused loading on a northbound load and they are refused loading because the trailer is wet.

Honestly, they usually fix it and go back but I feel bad for the drivers. You know the outbound market sucks when ...

I don't care how clean or dirty it is, It was .68 cents per mile that lit my fire. I know moss never pays good but usually works out to over a dollar (I still won't touch it), I run a dispatch service for owner operators and if I took something like that I'd fire myself :) and need to find 3.40 a mile coming home

Peatmoss

We had not run peat moss for several years , simply because it is a heavy load.

We have done several over the past few months, some for reefer carriers that could not meet the demand ( I guess they must haul it year round for their back- hauls of produce) and others directly for the manufacturers.

To our surprise all the loads went very well, they paid better than other freight heading in the same direction and payment was in hand in 15 days.

All the peat moss was skidded and in super sack type packaging, hence docks at all destinations.

We will do them again if it warrants our pick ups.
