Anyone familiar with the term Carnet? Supposedly it's some sort of bond that allows the freight to cross the border multiple times.

My question is does, this require an ACE or not? Also, if it does, how do we go about setting it up.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

it is like a passport for cargo usually used in show freight that goes around the world traveling free of duty and taxes, original must always travel with the freight and be stamp into/out of each country. This goes way back to my airfreight days so sorry no help for you on ACE but would imagine you would need to somehow manifest it maybe try calling dispatch at Atlantis Air Cargo or other air freight haulers they should be able to help with new procedures with getting it across.

Thanks for the info Shakey. I was also able to call US Customs at the Buffalo border, and according to them I don't need an ACE. So I'm going to keep my fingers crossed, until the truck crosses the border tonight.

We used to move some shipments on a carnet, they were show-type shipments that kept going back and forth over the border. We didn't know how to handle them either at first, but if I remember correctly, there is a particular customs broker who is assigned to each carnet who would take care of the clearance each time. Did your customer provide you with a customs broker? I am sure the broker can walk you through it. We didn't have any issues with it after the first time we did it, but there was a bunch of additional paperwork that had to be tracked all the time. Try the broker first, it's not a rare procedure apparently. I was jealous of the freight's travel history, it's passport was more well traveled than I was!
