We are having a huge problem with a new 4-axle trailer riding on Continental Tires. The tires on the first axle on the set of tridems are all cupping and the tires on the second axle are now starting to cup.

The trailer is less than a year old and we have been going back and forth with the sales rep from both companies for months.

Has anyone else ever heard of this problem?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! ;)

An alignment was done but apparently it wasn't necessary and didn't make any difference. They checked the bushings - all good.

4-5 years back, same thing happen to our new Cascadia trucks drive tires. finally, I had meeting with Freightliner, Michelin and local dealership reps. Freightliner was asking us to keep tire pressure at 100 psi but Michelin rep said that is incorrect information and ask us to keep at 85 psi which I did not agree and told them that we will keep at 92 psi. guess what, tires stopped cupping further. it was on 7 trucks we picked up and mileage was around 250-300k when we had meeting. we were able to run tires over 500k and still used some of them on trailers for few months. please check the tire pressure with Conti rep but personal experience with Conti tire is not good. put trailer tires on two trailers and never bought again. could not get mileage even 50% compare to other brands like Firestone, General or BF.

I will definitely be checking the tire pressure with the Continental rep.

Continental won't admit that the tires might be bad despite everything else being ruled out. BUT, they want to sell us a set of Generals to replace the cupped tires...and they get the casings. They say there is NO warranty on tires and this is a goodwill gesture. How is it goodwill when we have to buy the Generals?

My bet is alignment on the trailer even with it being new.
We had a brand new Manac do the same thing. Tires were shot from cupping in the first 6 months.
The trailer alignment was out straight from the factory

We get our brand new Freightliners from Penske aligned as we are responsible for the tires and it is amazing how many are out of alignment from the factory.
