I would.
All day.
Every day.
PROVIDED ... you can afford me :)
Me too ran 450 miles yesterday to get a customer load and still paid better than the brokered freight I left on the docks as i ran by to get my load.
Have run empty to TX bobtail for a broker to get a load i could careless loaded bobtail or empty if at the end of the week the numbers worked.

As a carrier, you are only involved in one aspect of the brokers business, the movement of one, particular freight shipment.
You are shitting me, right?
Besides the fact that we are all getting way off topic here ... you sir, have struck a nerve.
So, let's get to the rat killin' ...
I, as a carrier, like my peers, do everything you do. The difference between you and me is that I have the courage to take the added risk of owning equipment, and employing drivers. You do not. And that's where the difference begins and ends.
I dare you, in fact I double dog dare you, to try that line on Alain Bedard, or Wendell Erb, or Rob Gavin.
Let me know how that works out for you ... if you're still standing.

FWIW ... there is a massive difference between professional brokers and the "others". It's good to know you're one of the good guys :)

Whoa...hold on a second. Before you kill all the rats in SW Ontario, lets just back up a minute. I never suggested that carriers do not, or cannot not, or will not perform some of the functions that brokers do such as warehouse management, load scheduling, project management, etc.. Some carriers do all that and do it well, just as many brokers do. My comment was in direct response to your "nothing more, nothing less", "only in it for a fee", which to be honest, I found highly offensive. Sure, when a broker deals with a carrier it is usually a one of transaction. You transport the freight, I pay you some money. Wham - bang, thank you ma'am. Hopefully it grows into a more long term beneficial arrangement and it quite often does, but not always. A broker's relationship with their clients however is much more than a one time exchange of money, certainly something more involved than "nothing more, nothing less". For goodness sakes, I have some customers that have been with us since we started in 1991! There must be something "more, than less"! I don't expect you or any carrier to know all of the services and offerings we provide to our clients, but please believe me, they do exist and we are proud of their success. Starting any business takes courage, initiative and determination.

Man ... I'm glad you found a way to flesh out your words a little better ... LOL
We're reading off the same page. Singin' out of the same songbook :)

Can all you asset based guys tell me how many of you would dead head to prince Rupert , Ancorachge Alaska or Saltillo Mexico for a load?

And then tell me you can cover 100% of your customer shipments
In my experience, if the price is right, any carrier's wheels will roll. To beleive or claim that anyone can cover 100% of their shipments is either new, full of it, or need to find a better sales team. Just my 2 cents.

Well to be honest we book truck loads in many freight markets across the world. In Europe, Asia and North America. I can say that the common driving force in all these transaction is money. If we are offering enough a supplier will accept our load tender. So yes if the customer is offering enough money any shipment in any mode is possible.

I believe you can certainly do 99.9% with the right amount of money - for sure - but there is .1% freight you (or a 3PL as a whole) can't do and that's why you don't know about it (good ol NDA's). You are clearly good at what you do, but sometimes the swinging appendage needs a good kick. So hello, Happy Friday and have a great weekend!
