I have had 4 requests similar to this in 2 weeks , from brokers , no asset based We would like you to donate a gift so we can appreciate our employees . That you pay for . I know we have been beating you up on rates all year , but if you have anything left over please send gift cards ….

About 2 decades ago, I ran the golf tournament at a moderate-sized shipper with most of the work going to 2 brokers and a carrier. I was told when I started, to solicit gifts from all our vendors. We'd get small kitchen appliances, golf bags, attire, lots of barely useful swag, and a few bottles of booze.

Then Walmart would come for a meeting and leave $ for the sandwiches we had ordered for lunch. The times were a'changing.

Nowadays with woke, pronouns, and 37 genders everything is a potential landmine.. send the wrong thing (or even the right thing) and someone is going to be offended. Send nothing and someone is going to be offended also, but at least it costs nothing.

Honestly though.

We've shy'd away from gifts this year. Lots of companies are cracking down on it as well. Sent a basket out last year to a good customer. New policy, he had to fill out 3 pages worth of paperwork to be able to accept it...
