Cheap Freight of the day

Amazon, here in lower mainland, Put bidding out for local pick up and deliveries. Some idiots are bidding $100 when you know you have to drop trailer at delivery and go back to pick it up same day or next. Did these loads 4-5 years back with rates between $300-400.

Dear Abby
I would like to address the elephant in the room - cheap freight $2/mile in this economy from NE - ON. I keep being 'outbid' like i'm a gas station hotdog at 2:00am. Ms. Abby I feel at this rate I may as well run my trucks for a Tim's roll under the rim prize.

And don't even get me started on ' Oh if you do this we will make it up on the next load' - no Sir the next load is not only trash it is the landfill - nothing salvageable.

signed,
not hauling champagne freight on a tap water budget - sad in NE

I really thought we'd get a bit longer of a reprieve than a couple months from this 2 bucks a mile bullshit.

i heard flatbed teams putting up 40k weeekly in the states
If they have access to the right freight, absolutely accurate.

Can get FB loads for 700 miles around 8 to 9k. Keep it moving with proper del appts.

I don't think its common at 40k a week but possible for sure.

2 Drivers can pull 1,500 miles a day in snowless, rainless weather
If you move all 7 days of the week you get 10,500 miles a week
You take the loads at atleast 4.00 a mile, that's at least 42,000
Some of the weekly loads are taken at around 5 a mile and the drivers also get to respect the DOT laws a bit !

If this is a gauge for the outbound freight market out of Ontario, then the goods economy as a whole sucks, and is continuing to get worse.

1pm on a Thursday afternoon and two trucks at the Peace Bridge heading stateside! Yeehaw

The magamaggot who wants to exterminate us and rotten rat Carney offering us as the sacrificial lamb.

If our country's survival depends wholly on a different country buying shit from us, we're doing it wrong.
Absolutely true however we’ve been indulging ourselves on our only partnership with the Americans hoping that a guy like president trump would never be part of the picture, forty years of giving away our natural resources and most profitable crown corporations to the americanis to keep that sense of economic easiness going.

Rates way down from brokers but expenses way up
when do we as carriers start to make money or will we always loose
I'm not trying to be a dick here.

But why rely on brokers?

The most successful carriers, particularly 3-4 on this forum that I know of, have customer direct freight.
