Carriers quoting then backing out

It really is annoying when a carrier gives you the rate, customer agrees, then carrier says no, it's $1200 more, I made a mistake, and refuse to negotiate.. Really ticks me off..
Now I have to look dishonest & unprofessional by telling the client sorry we can't do it, the carrier we had 10 minutes ago is backing out unless we pay them $1200 more for the same load.

And the cherry on top? The carrier is telling all about how bad other trucking companies are and how good they are.. what a joke..

I had a CSR enter an order backwards this week (it was an outbound load but we booked it inbound). I hope that's not what the carrier thought when we explained there were not 13 skids to pick up in KS... People make mistakes, shippers do too when they estimate when freight will be ready 2 weeks from now. In the end we sure try to have all of our ducks in a row before booking a truck on a load. I see we cancel under 5% of bookings with carriers (Feb and March were unpleasantly above average but we have a couple of shippers that needed to be educated a little, all fixed now).
Yes, we track everything.

Keep well and happy Friday

shipper receiver education - the never ending battle. Like trying to raise teenagers or toddlers.

Tough in these times to quote it just right.. I quoted one yesterday shipper says "you're raping me".. and the carrier says.. "you're way too low".. and I wasn't trying to make a mint.. only 10%. In the OP carrier got right back to admit they quoted too low initially.. that's ok in my book. Very easy to make that kind of mistake right now. I wouldn't be too upset over that.

It's possible.. but I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. In this market its easy to quote it wrong.. I'm guilty of that myself at times..

Quotes based on one carriers cost are volatile at best.
When you quote based on a fair & accurate number you should be able to assign another carrier to the shipment and still be OK.
But if you base you rate on the lowest number you get... you're going to always have problems.

LOL no problem it was me and I just ran him to get some of my own freight in Iowa that I was having a hard time getting covered. PS paid better too!

As a carrier this is unacceptable you agree to a rate ! we all make mistakes but should never walk away makes everyone look bad
And I was more than willing to work with them, but not $1200.00 .. Offered halfway and still refused.. crazy..

sounds kinda like a broker cancelling the load because of "production issues" when in fact they found a cheaper truck. Room for improvement on both sides.

Unfortunately that goes both ways too.. "Sorry, can't pick up your load, the receiver at my delivery is refusing to unload" when in reality truck got a better paying load. Not to say it never happens that the receiver actually does refuse, just as it does happen with shippers actually having "production issues". Sometimes.
I've been offered from carriers "Pay me $X.xx and I will cancel the other load" before so there are people like that out there.
