Is there a reason why a carrier would have 2 different MC #s? They are under a different name, 1 with full company name and 1 with their intials. Both are showing current in the safersys website, have a different address (residential) but the same phone number.

Can anyone advise if there is reason for my concern

BTW, the carrier did not advise me of this, I found on my own research.

I would definately be concerned. Are they about to lose their running authority under one name so have opened another company to operate under once they do? I would also check the Safer system under Licensing and Insurance and see if they have been previously revoked.
sometimes If they carriers run flat bed under one mc and van division under another you would think that would be the same address.

Carrier may have contract and common carrier authorities under different numbers...that may be one reason...(instead of having both under the same MC). Maybe call them and ask...the reason might be interesting.

This is just a small couple of truck type company. The one address is a residential in Mississauga and the other is a PO Box at a plaza a block away from the other address.

I did check to see if the MC had been revolked but both do not have any past history of being revolked.

Both MC #s show for a carrier. I think this is one I just should avoid.

I know of one carrier in the US that has 5 MC numbers. He has an MC for each truck in his fleet, thereby allowing separate insurance polices for each truck..I guess if one goes bad it doesn't impact the whole operation.

If it is a small company the only reason would be if one went bad they could keep operating but I don't think it would take DOT too long to figure that out and stop it. But you should just ask them.
