Canadian Tire posting loads on Loadlink.

I was surprised to see Canadian Tire posting a load out of Georgia today. Isn't Load-link confined to Trucking companies and Freight Brokers? Or can anyone join Load-Link and post their loads?
 
They once had the policy that you needed to have a licensed truck in order to have a carrier account and be able to post loads and trucks available. Those times are over. We have seen many businesses over the years using loadlink. Just look at the peat moss for example.

It was always my understanding that private shippers were excluded from posting their loads. If CTC is posting their available trucks as any other trucking company does, can they also post their available “excess” freight, as any other trucking company does? Definitely a question for LoadLink to answer. Speaking as a freight broker, I prefer the exclusion of private shippers.
 
My customers use loadlink too.. First dibs go out to their core vendors, and if they can't move their loads then loads go to loadlink direct. It does put pressure on their vendors to perform. No performance and the door opens to your competitors!

You are probably right Igor. Not sure what their model is now, but in days gone by, they did use a fair number of O/Os. Today it looks like rail and contract carriers doing the majority of the work.

I had a client sign up for load link years ago. It lasted about 2 weeks and it totally screwed up their admin phone lines when they posted a load in a hot lane. They also stated that they got frustrated when people would call and say "how much you pay?". They also had issues with the quality of service and carriers they tried to book and where not familiar with a dispatch sheet. As we know, load link is helpful however there are many things you need to be aware of when using and booking loads off of it and that comes with experience.

They are posting loads from the US to Canada.........they don't have equipment available

They can post all they want. The new DC in Bolton is a shithole and takes forever to unload at. Last resort for me. 3.5 hours to unload 4 skids and of course there go too broker has yet to revise with waiting time but I will get them on the next one as they are not on my favorite list anyway.

If the broker promises "strength beyond borders" a very hot place will be frozen over before they make any fair attempts at covering waiting time

CTC is actually the largest IMC in Canada. Many times their intermodal boxes are running around with freight on them that has nothing to do with their retail arm. That's the loophole.

Crazy. I would have thought that being CT is a larger company that they would use their own vehicles to transport goods?
 
That was the old way of doing things H. Jordan. Now it is more economical to out source the transportation to transport companies. There will always be someone out there to do the job for less than what they could do it themselves.
