Canadian freight broker - brokering freight interstate USA

Provided you are registered as a freight broker with FMCSA and have the required surety bond, you are free to engage in US intrastate brokering. US carriers wouldn’t touch you without proper registration and an impeccable credit rating. Where you are domiciled doesn’t matter.

Oh yeah, I figured the FMCSA part went without saying, but yeah definitely. Do you think you'd need to register as a business and get an IRS tax # as well? Or how would one go about filing sales taxes they've collected?

We do it multiple times per day, we are registered as a broker, have an MC, DOT, contingent cargo, surety bond, member of the TIA, a back account in the US plus pay many carriers via EFS, we also use an 800 number on the DAT board.

Dealing with US carriers is very different than Canadian carriers; there are 10x more scammers and double brokers. US carriers do not book their loads in advance and search for a load on the day of pick up.

Thanks for the feedback AgentSmith - good info. I have definitely seen a lot of threads on Reddit about scams in the trucking sector in the USA, pretty wild, but of no surprise.
