BREAKING NEWS: MacKinnon Transport files NOI; Laidlaw to take over van line

Nobody said the poor McKinnons...just saying that that's business and that's what sometimes happens in business. I've had bad debts also...I don't like it anymore than the next guy. But the reality is that businesses sometimes get themselves into trouble and sometimes they fail. What's the alternative to bankrupcy, debtors' prisons? When you're in business you take the risk of potentially not getting paid due to circumstances out of your control. I'm not crazy about it either...but I do my best to stay on top of things and not get in too deep if I smell trouble. I had a shipper go bankrupt on me last year...I did the only thing I could do...I paid my carriers and took the loss. No point in getting mad over it...no point in crying over it. The shipper tried his best but for whatever reason it went south...even though I took a beating on it I don't say that he's a crook. It happens..

It appears to me that "One of Canadas 50 Best Managed Companies" is just another term for "good at dirty pool"

The "Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies" is a bit of a sham anyway. After all, how many companies are measured and compared? I guess I'm one of Canada's 50 fastest runners too.

The problem with these 50 year old companies is they are into 2nd and 3rd generation family, they have more than one sibling in the mix, they have all their kids involved, they all have company vehicles cottages boats big trips which is great when everything is pumping but when the hard times hit and the money shuts off they cannot shut off their lifestyles. They then stretch out receivables and cannot recover, if any company stretches out its receivables with us that is a major sign of trouble.

Don't forget the Harley Dealership in Owen Sound...

Big companies take note you can't keep cutting rates and running your trucks for nothin for ever. I can only hope the best for the drivers & O/P involved. Laidlaw will bankrupt you in under 3 months, least that was how it was when I worked for them many years ago.
