Hi everyone
if your BOLs are held hostage and not returned by ex employee what can be done?

Have your lawyer write a nasty letter threatening legal action if the BOLs are not returned immediately.

You could call the consignees and ask them for a copy so at least you have a copy on file in case of audit?
Having the originals would be ideal. What a POS... His people call here every day, all our freight is booked when they do.

I agree with Salma...call the police. The BOL's are company property so I believe that would be theft.

A call to the local police wouldn't hurt, it would provide a notification of a loss, but their enthusiasm in solving this crime might not be as robust as you might think. A well crafted notice from the offices of your solicitors might put the "fear of God" in them enough to either return the BOLs or at least destroy them or cease to use them.

Paul, do not waste your nerves on pursuing the driver for original PODs, they are not much of significance if rendered services are not disputed. You'll be better off making few calls to consignees obtaining the copies. Police is not going to get involved. Do not waste your money and time on lawyers.

Yes, a letter from your lawyer would likely be best, as well as contacting the consignee for a copy. As far as the police go, I had a truck and trailer stolen out of Oshawa by the GM plant a few years ago and the cops wouldn't even come out to the scene. Apparently we were the 9th truck stolen that week, and it was only Tuesday.

Depending on the relationship you have with your legal advisor, to have them craft a letter demanding return of your documents, shouldn't be an expensive option, maybe a couple of hundred dollars, if that. The police will be of no use to you, they have bigger fish to fry.

100% agreed with Economy. Couple phone calls and problem solved. However, I would do an official letter, just to cover my pretty asssss for the future (in case labor board is involved)

Go over to the local gym and grab a couple big fellas that are short a few bucks for their next steroid fix. Give them "cab fare" and the guys address. My guess is you'd see the paperwork fairly quickly.
(BTW ... guys with lots of tattoos and facial scars are the most effective)
