OK..this one is going to take a bit...and probably polarize the Board...BUT...

Called one of our flatdeck carriers with an LTL load from PQ to BC. Pickup during the week and deliver the following week by Wednesday.
Carrier says can't do it as LTL nothing else to go with it...BUT can do it as a Full Load.
Customer says go ahead as it's rush. Carrier picks up on the Tuesday for Delivery by Wednesday following week.
Call on Wednesday to ask the ETA for Delivery. We are then Advised that there was a Unit Breakdown and wouldn't deliver until Friday (Sorry we didn't let you know....) Truck was in MB on Wednesday.
Called Friday...Truck was in AB and wouldn't make the delivery to BC but would deliver on Monday. Then find out Truck has been delivering all the way out with other stops. When I point this out and cry Foul...we paid dedicated and your driver is doing other stops they say the delay was caused by the breakdown and not these other stops.
I again cry Foul, as the truck was rolling from PQ on the Sunday so if they moved it as dedicated like we paid for driver's ETA would still be Thursday / Friday into BC.
So the Magic question...what do we do? They have since billed the Dedicated load rate for approx. 14 feet of deck.
I will again point out this is (or was) a regular supplier.
Thoughts?

How did you find out truck had other orders on it? If you've got proof I would renegotiate the rate as an LTL/partial. In any event I would attempt to get some kind of discount given the late delivery. If the unit was really broke down then ask for the shop that fixed it and maybe a bill for the repair.

They offered up the repair bill but the issue was that the truck was rolling again Sunday night so would still have made service the same week. I then found out from them once the truck was only in AB Friday that he was doing deliveries all the way out to BC.
MB, SK, AB...then ours in BC.

They told you that even though you specified dedicated exclusive use service? Wow.. Definitely ask for a rate based on space used..

If you're certain there was other freight on your "dedicated" truck, then determine what an appropriate LTL rate would be and pay them for the service you actually received, not what they said they would offer.

First find out what they charge per linear foot ( or 1,000 lbs per foot whichever is greater) and do the math yourself. As a deck carrier, they got caught double dipping and need to be dinged accordingly.
