Anyone actually calculated how much loading dock delays cost you per month?

Been digging into our numbers lately and the loading/unloading side turned out to be a bigger cost driver than I expected — more than fuel some weeks when you factor in driver detention time and missed appointment windows. Most of our delays trace back to two things: waiting on manual dock equipment that needs cranking for every truck height, and trucks without a tail lift getting stuck waiting for a forklift that's tied up elsewhere. Neither shows up as a line item anywhere, it just eats into turnaround silently. Switched a couple of our regular lanes over to trailers with tail lifts and receiving docks with hydraulic levellers where we could control it, and detention time dropped noticeably. Small equipment change but the compounding effect over a month was bigger than I expected. Curious if anyone else has actually run these numbers or if I'm just late to figuring this out.

This “member” has been of interest to me since they first appeared. They indicate that they are a tailgate manufacturer. I have no problem with that and I am sure there might be other members seeking information regarding that type of equipment. My concern is that obvious, AI generated conversations on industry chat groups is not a good look for a legitimate company seeking new business. Other associated industries, insurance and receivables factoring come to mind, are active members of this site but they seem to refrain from self promotion and contribute helpful, knowledgeable information when discussions enter their field of expertise. Perhaps Tomswang of Beauway Industries should pay to advertise their company on this site?

Maybe he just really loves lift gates or whatever

They are a Chinese tailgate manufacturer. That probably explains the AI post. Just goes to show you how prevalent Artificial Intelligence actually is. Questioning everything you read and everything your hear these days is extremely important. It’s getting harder and harder to determine what is real and what is not.

And every AI company has teams of highly trained technicians working around the clock to eliminate any and all of those “tells”. It’s only a matter of time before AI generated material and human content will be indistinguishable from each other. Heaven help us!
