Any ideas of a dependable web site to get good truck leads and dependable carriers
not looking good to get trucks to move loads

As Rob said, right now, the only good source in Canada for trucks and available loads is Load Link. Be sure to use all of the searches Link provides. If you have a posting that isn't getting any response, run a corridor search. Be sure to call carriers that are anywhere close to your load. If they are not able to help this time, you have made contact with a potential new supplier for next time. Even with a load board such as Load Link, as a broker, you must be pro-active and continue to "shake the trees" until a good carrier falls out, preferably not on their head! Posting your freight on any load board and then sitting back waiting for the phone to ring isn't going to move your customers freight.

It's dead quiet everywhere - no wonder Charger laid off 40 drivers recently.

That surprises me, I see more and more Chargers going up and down the 401/403 thought they were going like gang-busters. They have a trailer out of their new terminal in Woodstock with a big banner saying they're hiring drivers. Almost see more of them than Challenger now.

Yeah me too. But they might do more 401/403 since there's less cross border and so drivers needs to still be moving and that explain why?
As for the banner - nobody will remove that kind of publicity even if they don't need drivers. Since last year, I think 95% of the carriers are looking for driver every day so....

Dunno - it is a strange time.

What we see more and more is customers trying to use this market to their advange, everyone goes into bid / RFP thinking they will get better rates. And they will! With carriers / brokers who can service them only at those rates...so when market picks up again and capacity tighten up...they'll scramble around, trying to book freight a high spot rates and they we'll be all screwed again and back at Jan 18 Market......

According to the news the economy is on fire.. both here and in the US. Record job numbers.. best in over 50 years down south.

Yes,

Everyone except Mike L is on Link (not that we really need Link too much lately for outbound). I can't tell you how may calls from carriers I've received asking for outbound. It's a steady stream.

Keep well Henry,
Mike

I don't think i know Mike L.

Henry, I believe he is referring to Michael Ludwig, a frequent, and knowledgeable contributor on this site.

Yes i noticed that name in shout box shortly after i made the comment. Thank you.

For all of you old timers out there, I am curious, do you recall how the market was prior to the 2008 crash? We started in mid 2007 and where just full of piss and vinegar just to grow the biz without paying attention to market trends. Now that we are 12 years old, these sort of trends and conversations on on our radar. I guess it's true that ignorance is bliss....

In my opinion they are getting caught up in insurance rates and the "Driver Inc" program from what I see all they're trucks are being hauled by I think RAV something out of Quebec which is part of Charger. Insurance is cheaper in QC and not sure how they are handling Driver Inc.
