Ambassador Bridge - A-PASS double charges

Just letting everyone know, if you have an A-Pass account to pay for your crossings at Ambassador Bridge, you should be checking each and every charge with your own records, as they do make a lot of mistakes... and they are always in their favour, not yours...

This has been a problem for some time now, but recently they are putting through a lot of double charges.

They do remove the charges when we dispute them... But for those who are not cross-referencing these bills, the losses could be substantial.
 
Once you follow up a few times and get credits, they become more vigilant with their charges. We had a lot of errors in the beginning. Refunds did eventually get applied. It's been ages since we have had to make any corrections. They are easier to get when the cannot identify the tag number.

It's been the opposite for me... haahaa... maybe it's in my head... used to be one or two here or there, but it seems they have been pretty fast and furious with the double charges in the past month...

I figured maybe they've had a slow month and are trying to get their sales numbers up! haahaa...

It is to be noted that the only person worth anything over there was Wilma. Unfortunately, Wilma passed away quite suddenly early last spring.

I thought there was a previous post on this from 2-3 years ago, we canceled our A-pass account and pay the extra charge for not having one for each transaction. I may pay extra but don't have the grief of chasing them and waiting upwards of 6 weeks to get a refund which I would cost for time and energy as well, either way not very profitable dealing with the A-Bridge

When this first came in to place we actually switched our operations standard crossing to Bluewater bridge due to the errors, double and false billings at the Ambassador Bridge, it became an admin nightmare at the time and we found this to be the easiest solution. We have not gone back to Windsor/Detroit since that time several years ago except for the very rare load we handle that delivers with the hwy driver on their way in along the corridor before where the 401 meets the 402

That's the way I wanted to handle it too... Just too much trouble and just seems sketchy... We do use Blue Water more now, but we still need to use the Ambassador bridge quite a bit, unfortunately...
 
We use TransPlus from Fleetmanager and I've created a report of all our border crossings at Detroit. It helps our staff identify the issues quite quickly. We use Ambassador a lot so this report was required to identify the one or two per week that double billed to our A-account.
 
some of our guys use Sarnia/Port huron. They did not want to participate in the Apass and got quite upset when they started charging admin. for not having one. We are going to WA quite often as of late and in that case, we cross at Sault Ste-Marie
Maybe we have less errors because we are a small company and it is much easier to spot than some of the bigger companies with multiple crossings each day.
 
They charged our Visa card 10 consecutive times once ... that's right, 10 consecutive times !!!
We simply called the Visa fraud line and let them handle it. It got straightened out pretty quick.

If you didn't open account, they charge every transaction extra $5.00 US or $6.25 CDN. It looks like they charge interest and rate for this (if calculate) is up to 28% annually. Also you will find huge overcharges if you check what Class rate they charged. My trucks cross bridge empty to Detroit very often (regular round trip) and many times they charged rate Class B or C or 10 axles Class C. My trucks with empty tandems dry vans never been heavy more then 35000 Lbs, and they should charge rate Class A. I tried to get credit for these transactions for 2017, they didn't give me that. I sent to them copy of trucks and trailers Ownerships, CAT scale tickets they didn't accepted. I stopped all payments and ask them adjust charges for 2017. They said, " they will stop my trucks at the border." Do you think they can do that? It is privet company. They should have agreements with Ontario and Michigan governments about border crossing service. We have no choice in that area, only one bridge. We are small company and loosing few hundreds dollars per year, can you image how much Ambassador bridge makes extra with overcharge, I think tens thousands of dollars. Please respond if anybody else has same problem or maybe they already stopped your trucks.
 
I think they must have responsibility before Michigan state and Ontario province about border crossing service. Could be good look at that. Should be available for public.

Can't wait for the Gordie Howe Bridge to get done. I don't know what the crossing prices will be but I am tired of dealing with both sides of the Ambassador bridge and their extra charges.
 
Moroun and his family, who own and operate the Ambassador Bridge fight against new bridge construction.
They don't like competition. New bridge will destroy them. Probably we have to send more complains to the Canada, Ontario, USA and Michigan Governments, may be that can help them to win.
