First Carriers - Brampton, ON 905-230-0114

Looking for current payment trends on the above noted company. Only in business 2 years. Any posts appreciated.

Thank you

We gave the note company First Carriers from Brampton a load from Ontario to southern AB loading on Feb 24th. they showed up with a container not a dry van. I discussed with them and they said they were moving via road, well guess again. Not sure what's up with this carrier other then they moved our road load via rail and were working to do this at our road rate. They have no website and very little information out there. I think they are clearly into some things that people may want to stay away from. The only reason I let them carry on with our load was that I had to find out the truth and again today we have determined they did not offer what they said. Best to likely stay clear.

first carriers shares the same phone number as montreal express transport
Hmm the same number as Montreal Express Transport ? That's defiantly something to look into as they owe me quite a bit of money. Do you happen to know what numbered company First carrier is ? No one answers 905-230-0114

I think they are independent but are affiliated with Grizzly Endeavours. But separately owned. I did one load with First Longhaul and took the Quick pay. I did 3 short runs and they say 30 days . Will update at that time.

Anyone contemplaing working with this company please read this first. On Feb 23rd one of my dispatchers booked a load with this company to load in Tillsonburg, ON for Medicine Hat, AB. They were to load on Feb 24th and deliver on the 27th or 28th. Road was booked for a dry van. Carrier is newer and had all the proper paperwork WSIB and insurance.

They loaded on the 24th of Feb, and our shipper called us after loading to advise that they loaded a rail container not a dry van.

We verified with the carrier and were advised road. I did not feel trusting about this but gave the benefit of the doubt noting on the phone and via email that if it did not arrive on it's intended date we'd be pretty skeptical. Needless to say it arrived late. So we did verify that they moved it via rail. The carrier was forthcoming at that point noting that the dispatcher who booked this quit. Needless to say we were not willing to pay road rates for rail service. We advised the carrier we would pay rail rates but needed confirmation first that they paid their outsourced agents who drayed and moved the can. WE could not trust that they were paying their carrier seeing the really double brokered it.

Well they weren't having any of that they threatened to claim against our shipper and consignee which they have now done. We received notice that they filed a small claims in Ontario. I believe we have all our ducks in a row other then this carrier makes us look bad to our customer. The payable isn't even due yet it's due on the 24th.

I also had conversations with a company from BC that I work with who said that First Carriers double brokered them a load and didn't pay them.

So please be very cautious and do your homework before use or working for.

have dealt with them a few times. I agree they either pay quick pay, or their terms are 45 days from POD. We have been paid a few times without issue. They request original PODs

There are only two reasons someone requires original POD's that I can think of.
1) They wait until you call for payment, usually after 30 days. Then tell you they need the original, buying them another 30-45 days to pay you.
2) The load was not theirs to sell to you, and they need the original so they can doctor it up for the "real" customer.

Either or, it's a scam...

I'm not sure I would totally agree. I've seen many worrisome things with Pod copies. I had a small carrier recently fax me a pod. It looked great. When I billed the customer, they had the original and damages were clearly noted. Now we have a claim on our hands. Other reasons might be to ensure that carrier completed the delivery? I've seen 9 times brokered freight. Some guys make 10 big bucks on a load. Real intelligent! Original pods are the way we are going now too. I fraudulent pods!

I have no problem giving the original, but i prefer to pick up my paie at same time. i done have to go to any office 2 time then. Most companies allow me to pick up paiement after they inspect, but sometime i have to return a few day later

Well, as far as I'm concerned the original POD is my property until I get paid. Until then, it won't leave my office... Just my 2 cents.

If those terms are in the agreement, that makes sense. If someone has agreed to release the Original and be paid on terms( we do this) then that makes sense also. It is important for dispatchers to read the contract they sign. We make sure our dispatchers read the agreement as do our finance people.

There are other forums even today, that demonstrate there are many carriers that require original PODs. at times. Many factoring companies want them also . If we agree to provide the original, then we should.
